That is, for me, the toughest web site going! I have tried hard to determine what their best oil filter is for my 1997 GMC 5.7 2500 but no luck.
Try it and if you have better luck or skills than I, post the answer here.
Thanks.

Yup, they usually both fit. Some Dodge filters will too. My cross ref books at my dads. But usually any parts house that actually has books instead of idiotic computer programs like advanced and auto zone can tell ya which will fit.

Yep, my four wheel takes the shorter style, other wise they can hit if the longer one is used.

Theres usually not a problem using the longer one. Though if ypure unsure use the appropriate one. If youd like to try a different brand, heres a nifty cross ref site. You must know the current brand and number though... http://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com/PS...as example, to go from Napa Gold to Wix just add a 5 in front of the number. Using Napa Gold # 1036, Wix would be 51036. Any other brand, if it ends in 036 it is USUALLY a Wix product.

NAPAs website sucks. Others do much better. If I have some time before needing parts, I buy from Rock Auto!

I have no faith in store brand filters. Just specify Wix and everything is good. There's never any guarantee that a store brand filter thats similar to Wix is actually a Wix filter. Especially now, in this time of manufacturing dominance by the heathen Chinee.
