OK I need some help, I just bought a Tikka 270 WSM and I am planning on running 130g Nosler BT bullets. Not looking for super hot loads, 3100-3200 FPS range is fine with me. What loads seem to work in a Tikka (my first ever Tikka and my first non Rem 700 in over 25 yrs). Do they like touching the lands or do they like a jump? If they like a jump where is a good place to start? Any and all help is great. I will not have the gun for about another week but trying to get ready so when it gets here I will be ready. Thanks John

For my 2 Tikkas, it was just a matter of taking whatever loads I had available from other guns. Never had anything shoot over an inch. First 3 shot group with my 22-250 using a friend's handloads for his savage yielded a 1/2 inch group. First group with my 25-06 using some old handloads I had for a Ruger yielded a group that could be covered with a nickel.
Those who must raise their voice to get their point across are generally not intelligent enough to do so in any other way.

H4831 and the 130gr NBTs are a good combo. What little I loaded for my T3 shot about .75 @ 100yds

Sorry to tell you, but you're gona have to live with lots of jump in bone stock form. Short mag length and longish throats are the norm for T3s. Don't let it bumm you though, they usually shoot great when loaded to mag length. It actually makes things a bit easy as you can load to mag length and rock on.
When the urge to chase lands hits, I have converted the 08 based case mags to LA mags and added a new bolt stop, but I haven't checked to see if the 300WM class mags will take the fats. Maybe someone else has tried? I'll pull a 300WM mag tonight and see if fats will work.

I'm hoping the 4lbs of IMR4350 you just bought will rock as it does in mine. I've had good luck with 17 and the 4350s pushing 130s-150s. For only striving to hit 3100-3200, you have plenty of powders on hand to get rolling. I have a feeling you'll strike pay dirt with the 4350.
You gona rock the HS or put a Leupie on it?

May start out with the HS just to see what I have and how it does, then decide. In looking at load data for the WSM they show one or two powders I don't have but several I do, so I will try and start with what I have and other suggest.

I went looking for the Holy Grail of loads for my Tikka Swede, and out of five different loads with different bullet weights and powders, I found that the Holy Grail was the rifle, not the load. The largest group I had was 0.740" and the smallest was 0.504" at 100. Any one of them is plently accurate for any game I hunt at the ranges I shoot them.
Load and shoot. Have fun.

Yep, I have "seen" a few of them in the past year or so. All have been good shooters with about any bullet or load we tried.
If we live long enough, we all have regrets. But the ones that nag at us the most are the ones in which we know we had a choice.
