I have a custom 7mm-08 with a Rock barrel at 25.5 inches from the lug. What velocity is reasonable to expect with 140 accubonds. It was built on a long action and the throat was lengthened on the chamber to put the pressure ring of a 162 amax above the neck shoulder junction. I am getting decent groups at 2870 right now but am considering trying to see if I can get to the next node and tighten it up but don't want to trash the brass.

WTF would you ask a question about YOUR rifle, that you have in your mitts?
Wow.
Double Wow...for a L/A 7-08. You might want to wear a helmet,to boot.

I was asking for others with experience in reloading for this caliber to share what they have found. Since you have no pertinent information to this topic will you please get off your parents computer and go back to playing with your gi joes.

Not a 708 owner so I can't offer much but I won't bust your chops either. If you are getting 2870 fps with a 160 gr bullet I would venture you are not leaving much on the table velocity wise. I believe if you will look at the info in the Speer #13 manual you will see that you are close to their max loads velocities and they are using a 24 inch barrel so to go much higher you will probably be pushing it. Frankly if you want a 7mm mag then I'd trade for one. Otherwise the 708 is a nice mid capacity round that does a fine job in its own right.

Nosler #7, 140 gr. bullets. 26" test barrel My go to load is 43 gr. W-748. I load for 7-30 waters, 7-08, 7x57, 7mag, and 7stw, so I don't try to turn my 08's into STW's. Cooper Montana Varminter, 24" barrel, 100yds. Best, GWB

Thanks GWB. Reason I'm not so sure is I'm using Power Pro 2000mr and not much reloading info out there exist for it. Velocity=pressure though.

But the speeds you get with YOUR gun could be 100 fps faster, or slower with the same loads. That was the point being made above.

A Chronograph is a must for load development in any particular rifle. Its not like they are expensive for the value they add to a savvy reloader. Duyring load development, I always shoot over a chrono. Here is an example. I knew that this bullet/powder combo shot well in this rifle from previous experience. In this case I decided to do a primer test, contrasting accuracy vs. velocity. Best, GWB

I'm killing chit to 500 yards with factory loads in '06 ('98 with a 27 inch heavy bbl, and a RU77 with 17 inch bbl) and Rem 725 with 700TI bbl in .260.
Not that I don't favor custom reloads- it' just inconvenient at the time.
I've never used a chrono - just paper at ranges.
What's the problem again?

True-dat. I've had to drift a few by eyeball.... Mostly it's worked. Tho there was that infamous (but unknown until somewhat later) pecker-shot on that 'bou a couple years back. Slowed him (and the other two 'bou) down, for subsequent and closer shots... I let the cow go... and have since bought an adequate range-finder... I've remembered to use it once since, forgot it twice since..... only positive results on shooting with or without - tho I passed up a shot once that I would have taken had I remembered to use the range-finder... I'm old - this new-fangled high-tech chit takes some getting used to.

No matter the Vintage...KNOWING always Trumps guessing.................. I'd not argue with that....... or at least be reasonably assured. One of the reasons I use a chrono. Best, GWB

I'll feign my "surprise",that there's not a 162 in the bunch.
