I am a new member, and this is my first post, so my apologies if I commit any no-no's.
I have a 99 that is a takedown model. It is in 30-30win, and has a strait grip. Now ive read alot of the posts on here thus far, and have tried to figure out sometihng about my rifle, but with each post read I seem to get more confused. I do not have the rifle with me right now, as I am working in a different town then the rifle, but I will be back home on Monday night and will be able to provide more information at that time. BUT what I know is this: Its a 30-30 takedown, with strait grip, blueing on reciver is almost gone (like most old 99's I presume), case color on lever is decent but not perfect. The wood is decent with no cracks, but does have its fair amount of dings etc. standard sights, with no tang sight (I wish it had one). It has the correct but plate, (shotgun type) which is also in good condition. I think it might be an 'F' model, because of the short, light barrel, Maybe only 20 inches long. I do not have have the serial number with me, possibly I can call my dad and get that for you guys. I would rate the gun overall with only 60%. The gun is in decaent shape but the blueing is faded and the finish on the wood is worn. It seems that this gun was someones everyday rifle for many years.
I was also wondering about possibly the value of the rifle may be. I understand it is hard to guess with out detailed pics, but those are not avalable at this time.
One more thing, a friend of mine has a 22 hi-power barrel for a 99 takedown, I was jsut wondering if you can just switch them out or not. I know it is bad to takedown a takedown rifle, and have only done it maybe twice, just out of curiosity.
Thanks a bunch, Dave

It sounds like it is a possible F. When you get to the rifle we'll know for sure. Yes, the 22 H.P. barrel should work fine with the 30-30 rotor and bolt.

It will work, but you need to get it checked by a gunsmith. The headspace needs checked.
If you really like something, you better buy two!

Welcome to the group!
A serial number will help a lot.
The .22 HP will screw on but probably not index correctly so it will require fitting to the rifle. As you would expect, that will require a gun smith and $$$'s.

When you take down the rifle be sure that the lever is open.

Steve,
I've swapped barrels on several TD's and have not had two that indexed the same, yet. I think that the chance is good that it will not fit without rework. Also, remember that Savage only advertised the .303/.25-35 and .30-30/.25-35 interchangable rifle barrels in the early years. I know there were other multi barrel sets made but it must of had its problems or I would think they would of made more and for longer. JMO
