Contender chambered in .257 Roberts.....What do y'all think? I think it's a bit much for the Contender frame......handload down?

It would scare me. I think there is a strong possibility of frame stretch unless very mild loads were used.

I don't think you'll find anyone that would chamber a barrel for you; too much liability. Even if you cross your heart and promise to download it, there's always the chance someone will get hold of it and hurt themselves, ending in a lawyers wet dream.
There a several .25 and 6.5 wildcats based on .30/30 or .225 brass that are pretty impressive. The 7-30 Waters can also do well with pointy projectiles.

Thanks Pappy. Not looking to build one, I had an offer of one so chambered in a trade. The barrel is marked 45,000 psi max.....but, I still think the caliber is an Encore only reality.

That's a good thought.
Do you happen to know who made/chambered the barrel?

The barrel lug is marked "+Marsh Al 9 7 81 Mx. PSI 45000" No other markings on the barrel that I can see in the pictures.

I have a 30/40 Krag in a Contender. The barrel was made by MGM. Shoot very well.

I don't think you'll find anyone that would chamber a barrel for you; too much liability. You underestimate the stupidity of some people. I heard of a Contender barrel chambered in 358 Winchester by some idiot.

.....but, I still think the caliber is an Encore only reality. I'd agree. That's why TC developed the Encore.

yeah, they even have made a few in 250 savage and those are also considered a no-no. you could have either pressure or case head size, not both.

Didnt Magnum Research make pistols in 358? Not sure about the .358, but I'm pretty sure they made it in .308 and maybe '06, as well as .44mag. I always thought that one looked interesting, like a miniature artillery piece.

Yea, Magnum Research made a single shot pistol suitable for shooting high pressure rounds. It was so ugly I didn't research it further.
If you want one, there has been one in the Cabela's gun library in Columbus for several weeks.

Might be a .25-35 Win chamber would be a trick, even an AI'd version, assuming you load it like a mature adult.
I am..........disturbed.

A check with Bellm is always a good move. That was also done. Everyone has confirmed my thoughts on the subject. A .257 is too much for the contender. I had thought of buying the pistol and selling the barrel, but.....would the frame be stretched; and, or could you even sell the barrel? I vote yes & no........

upon review, I suppose it was only a consideration and not a possession. Thanks for the food for thought anyway. Jimmy
