After going 4 years without bagging a moose I finally got this one last week. After seeing over 30 different bulls in the course of 4 days my pard and I came home loaded with meat.

He managed to shoot a nice tender forked horn at 300 yards, offhand with no rest and hit it in the neck, killing it instantly. I shot mine with a Marlin XLR 45-70 using 420 Garrett Hammerheads at 30 yards. The shot left a tiny hole but did the job quite nicely.

Congrats! A winters worth of good eating awaits, just had moose soup the last two nights. And I'd take a mooseburger over a hamburger any day of the week.

happy for you guys, well done!

Good luck to you!

I'm headed back out next week with another friend of mine to help him find a bull while I look for a grizz. The closer to the rut the better the hunting.

Dont cha just love hunting during the rut!!! Very interesting how a bull wont respond to a cow call but will come right on in to some grunting and thrashing...or vise versa.

I too will be heading out this week. We are flying to the village on the 19th and returning the 25th.

I am so looking forward to it.

Again, very nice bull!

No offense taken, we actually got 2 side by sides to him and was able to pack him out quite easily. When it comes to packing moose, I prefer this method over the "super hero" method of packing them on your back.

Some prefer the "super hero" method as opposed to leaving an eternity of scars across the landscape wink

They - atvs- don't always leave scars. Can't find where folks drove 2 years ago assuming it's basically a one time trip

Congrats on the bulls!

While I still get a personal reward out of packing I sure will drive right up to em if terrain allows. And I will drive up to them Everytime if I can

But in case I usually bring my wife along. So far she hasn't had to pack

Spot on, I can't ever remember myself or any of my buddies killing a moose in the same spot every year. There are plenty of pre-existing trails in the area and there really is no need to make new ones.

Someone should really mention to the caribou that they are scarring up the landscape - those things are a menace.

Nice work on the bulls!
