Sam, just reading the tent thread made me think about the fact that you and I probably care a lot more about water resistance than most of these guys. I was talking about breaking in a pair of boots a while back and one of the guys told me to soak them in water and wear them 'til they get dry. They don't realize that things NEVER get dry where we live.

Sam, just reading the tent thread made me think about the fact that you and I probably care a lot more about water resistance than most of these guys. Any quality tent with properly sealed seams is going to be waterproof. Doesn't matter how much it rains. Travis

I reckon the law of diminishing returns applies to everything recreational. Maybe we should find out what the hobos, living in parks, prefer?

I bought the Alaskan Guide tent a year ago to hunt out of in bad weather. Went with the 8 person tent with fiberglass poles. Wasn't worth the cost for aluminum poles since a little extra weight wasn't a problem. It is 7' in the center. I can easily sleep 3 and still have room to spare. There is room for a 5' folding table in the vestibule to cook from inside if the weather is bad. Seems like it was $550 a year ago and I caught it on sale for $500. I also had a coupon for free shipping and about $200 in Cabelas bucks which really helped. I'll second the alaska guide tents....have spent a few weeks in one, total of a few different trips, in north alaska in one of the 8 man tents. Great tent. Takes what's thrown at it.
