I am constantly trying to cajole the ladies in my life to become more aware of their surroundings, without trying to make them paranoid or fearful of everyone and everything. Considering the recent rash of college students being assaulted, abducted, or killed I want my daughter to look for potential dangers before proceeding.

I think I have become a broken record to them, and am not being taken seriously.

What say you CampFire dads and husbands? How do you drive this point home without becoming background noise?

That was what I was thinking.

That makes three of us.

My daughter is only 7. So I tell her "monsters are real and the scariest thing about them is they look like you and me." Which I believe has set in.

I give my wife links to news articles like the Channon Christian or Holly Bobo type cases. And I don't preface them.

Once, just once, I ambushed my wife getting out of her car at night, just to teach her a lesson.

Get some friends to throw a bag over her head and toss her in the trunk of a car, then you rescue her.

What could possibly go wrong.

Granted, it'd take some planning..... But I doubt you'd get hassled about taking out the trash for long, long time.

I had a game that I played anytime we were out in public. It was called "Find the threat before Dad does".

If I moved away from them without saying a word, they knew that I had spotted a possible threat. If they spotted a threat first, they got a trip to the ice cream parlor.
They learned to spot them and that has stuck with them into adulthood.
We still play when we are out in public together.

Not at all. But they can learn and adapt.

Sounds more like he's trying to keep them from being victims.....

Men aren't wired to remember anniversaries or birthdays, but they adapt so they can get a little nookie.

Women aren't wired to look for bad guys, but I reckon they can adapt so that they won't get kidnapped and beheaded by ISIS.

My wife has been married to me for so long that she hates everybody anyway. If she carried a gun, the bodies would be everywhere.

I remind them every time they go and every time there is a tragedy, I point it out to them. I think my message gets through because every time they leave the house they take their Kel-Tecs

Make sure you have motel fees with you for a week or so, and then change to opposite shifts so she is working while you sleep after the "kidnapping"
