What are the over all thoughts on a 150 grn Pro Hunter in a 308 for deer?

I'd say it would be close to ideal, though I usually shoot 165 grn bullets in my 308.
I also don't like to split hairs debating bullets. Shot placement always trumps slight differences in bullet makeup. I back it up to what shoots well in your gun, then put the bullet in the correct spot.
If using a round on the smaller side for intended game, bullet selection becomes more critical. JMHO

Never used the Sierra 150 but have killed several w/Speer 150's and max book loads of I-4064. I now use 165 Nosler PP PT's and the book max of I-4064 as my timber Elk rifle.-Muddy

Not sure how much difference there is between the Pro Hunter and the GameKing spitzers but here is a buck I took last fall with the 150 GameKing spitzer(#2125) out of an old 308. Buck was nearly head on, 125 yards. Entrance was center of the brisket and that lump you see above the bolt handle is the bullet. Deer made it all of 5 feet before going down.

Nice buck ya got well done. Gameking is a Boat tail, Pro-Hunter is a flat base. Only difference. IMO

You'll be happy if you try that combo on whitetails. I've used the 150 Gr Pro Hunter out of 300 Savage and a 30-06 on dozens of whitetails. This is a high shock bullet that also penetrates very well. A high percentage of DRTs has been my experience.

They're almost embarrassingly cheap, but they work great!

And are some of the most accurate game bullets available.....at least in my experience.

My father killed a good number of deer, one shot apiece, with 150 grain Sierras I loaded for his 30-06.
I'd say it would be even better in a 308.

Shot a nice buck two years ago with a Sierra 308 150 Pro Hunter. Lung shot, just behind front leg at about 110 yards. Bullet exited, deer turned around as if to run and fell dead. This year, I'm going to try the 125 in the 308. Have used the 120 and 140 in a 7x57 and 7mm08 on several deer. On lung shots, I've always had an exit hole and a dead deer within 50 yards. I load for 2750 to 2800 fps with both calibers.
Excellent deer bullets and accurate too!

Probably will try the 150 Pro Hunter in a mild .30-06 load.
I haven't tried all c&c bullets of course but I know you don't want to be pushing them too fast. Except for one and it's been discontinued for yrs.

50 grs. of 4064 with the Pro Hunter is one of the most accurate combinations I've tried in my 30-06. With a 22" barrel it's a little over 2800 fps in that rifle with mild recoil.
In the same rifle the 125 Pro Hunter with 50 grs of IMR4895 is at least as accurate with less recoil. I haven't chronied that one but I'd think it should be a little faster. I've never shot anything but paper and gongs with the 125 but I recall someone here saying it was a good deer bullet.

I had thought about that 125gr bullet but don't know what it's terminal effects are. I'm one that wants to "eat up to the hole".

I shot a little buck last year with a Prohunter, although in .311, 303 British. Deer never took a step.

Killed a my deer last year with the 180 pro hunter out of a 30-06. Complete pass through and didn't go very far.
I thinkthe pro hunters are of tougher construction than the game kings. Not 100% on that, but I would like to see a cross section some day.

Nice buck ya got well done. Gameking is a Boat tail, Pro-Hunter is a flat base. Only difference. IMO On the Sierra website, some of the bullets descriptions include the term "tapered jacket", while others don't. I recently sectioned the empty jacket I found in a bag of 6mm 100gr PH blems and, as advertised, the jacket was noticeably thicker near the base. I have to assume the ones not so described are straight cup&core, if that matters to anyone.
What fresh Hell is this?

I remember reading on here a while back that the Pro Hunter had a thicker jacket than the Gameking.Dont remember if that was caliber specific or not.

My 70's era Sierra manual is on loan right now but I believe it says the same thing. I'm thinking .308 caliber and below?
