Interesting how he tricked the bear into thinking he left and snuck back into the stand.
The woods where this guy lived is rich with bear food. Nuts, berries and he obviously liked corn.
In WI you either hunt with bait or dogs or you don't see/get a bear. I've actually used a similar tactic, use 4-wheeler to bait, bang the 5 gallon buckets a bit, putt putt away....sneak back. Still not easy to fool Mr. Bruin...
Laying around gorging in a cornfield all day makes more sense.
