Components have been a little scarce lately, decided to work up some loads with what I can get my hands on (I had some AMAX's stashed). I worked up some 7mm-08 loads w/ RL17 for my Kimber 84m Montana. I had a little time this morning and shot both loads over my chrony. Both loads seem to shoot well at 100yds, haven't tried anything further yet (wind was howling this morning).
RP Brass, WLR primer, 162AMAX, 44.0grns RL17, 2.800 COAL, temp - 80F
1) 2662 2) 2666 3) 2675 4) 2682 5) 2673
RP Brass, WLR primer, 139SST, 47.0grns RL17, 2.790 COAL, temp - 80F
1) 2889 2) 2867 3) 2865 4) 2884 5) 2871
No pressure signs in either load, believe both could be loaded a little hotter if someone were so inclined. Had a minor SNAFU getting my scope from Leupold, hopefully will have it soon and see how they shoot out to 500yds.

Keep us posted David. I just got some RL17 for my 7-08 today and then happened upon this thread tonight. My rifle likes Varget with the 139btsp, but Varget is a bit like a ghost lately. I haven't seen it on shelves for some time now and I don't have much left.

Not much a good 160-162gr bullet can't do at 2,700+/-.
Now with even more aplomb

Nope -
Big Game will get you an additional 50 fps likely but if accuracy is there with those velocities, rock on I say -

Big Game will get you an additional 50 fps likely but if accuracy is there with those velocities, rock on I say - I think there is some additional fps available with the RL17 also (don't know if it's 50fps). I wasn't trying to push them too hard. Accuracy so far seems pretty good. A little hard to judge - I'm getting some occasional erratic shots, particularly at the 500yd line. I think it's me - shooting a brand new Kimber Montana topped (finally) w/ a Leupold FX3 6x42. My first Kimber, 1st rifle this light, still getting used to it.... David

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

David (Canazes9),
Any updates on using RL17? Did get a chance to throw a few loads together under the 139btsp and 139IB. The IB loads had promise but I haven't been able to play with it more. I'd also like to try the 162btsp over it.

I'd also like to try the 162btsp over it. I haven't done any more load work on Hornady bullets since I posted this. I realized that I hadn't shortened my front screw on my Talley's and once I did that accuracy improved with both of these loads. I got my 6.5 CM together finally and spent most of my load time playing with it. I developed one more RL17 load for the Montana and that's what I'm going to hunt with this year: 49.0 grns RL17, 120 TTSX, COAL 2.790, 3000fps. Accuracy has been outstanding and the trajectory matches up perfectly with the LR reticle on my FX3. David

Cool! I just double checked my hunting load 43.5gr Varget, Interlok 139btsp at 2820fps.
Maybe I'll have more playing time after the hunting. Good luck on your hunt.
