Okay, my google-fu fails me.
Weren't there some receivers stamped CONDEMNED or some such that came back from Savage after being worked on?
I think we're talking an oooold thread here.
Pictures would be most appreciated.

Yes there was at least one. I might have a pic somewhere.
It is in may data as "1 of 2 Marked "CONDEMED BY SAVAGE ARMS CORP . 11.5.20"". It was posted by RLG. One was an 1895, 7023. Don't know what the other was.

IIRC, and I probably don't, if you shipped a pre 90,000 rifle back to the factory for repair and they refused to repair it and you declined their offer of a new rifle for a small price they would ship your rifle back with "condemned" stamped on it. As always, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer so ICBW. Somewhere in the back posts I'm thinking that there is a thread.

I do remember that letter, but I think at least some of these condemned ones are early ones with dates from the 20's stamped also. Maybe has to do with working on pre-heat treated receivers?

The factory letter is somewhat contradictory IMHO. Item #13 states "We recommend converting the 22 Hi-Power as manufacture of commercial factory loads for this caliber has been discontinued", yet they offer four calibers that can be converted TO 22 Hi-Power. yooper

Don't know about condemned rifles, you guys are the collectors, but I know there were factory reworked guns for the cocking indicator and other stuff.

Would love to know more about this piece. Can you provide pictures? I can help post them if you email them.
Does the gun appear to function correctly without noticeable defects?
Thanks for posting!

Sure I can send you pics. I can't seem to get them small enough to post. The gun seems to function fine but I haven't tried to shoot it. Someone along the line took 4 inches off the barrel and looks like tried to beat off the condemned with a punch or something. Has a marbles tang on it with king front and rear sights.

Yeah, somebody tried to chisel that word off, didn't they? Thanks for the picture, definitely one to save. PS: Still waiting for Stever to dig his out and post details on it.

I would be really PO'd if a company stamped that on my rifle without my approval.
