I usually have at least 2 out of three. wink Kippers make it into the lunch bag most hunts.

As a kid I loved to meet my dad for lunch downtown at the old Palace Club. They had sardine sandwiches on the menu!! laugh laugh

Yep, though I like sardeens, and Kipper snacks too; I can also eat pickled herring though a jar is not as handy to carry around as the little tins are. I even liked the cooked, canned oysters right out of the can.

Wife doesn't like the smell. I love em.

This year during moose hunt in AK she stayed home to care for her mother....

I ate more than my share of cans... kippered smoked becoming a new favorite also. But mustard is my faithful standby.

Since I don't drink anymore due to 24/7 on call, I have not really had em with beer locally... but in AK they went down with Alaskan Amber.

Though I"M not sure anything goes bad with AA.

and these

Thanks for the advice as they are what I was looking for! Tiny sardines and not fish chunks.

While not a sardine, I prefer the smoked herring...

Some crackers, sharp cheese, pickles and a couple cans of these, can make a good meal...

Love the King Oscar double layer.

For a change, try mashing them with a tiny bit of finely chopped sweet onion, mayonnaise and black pepper, on saltine crackers.

That does sound good!

The smoked sprats were actually a better buy than the King Oscar brand and just as tasty.

Best flavor?

Sweet/Hot or Hot/Spicy?

I tried sardines once by happenstance and was off-put by the bones. Is this brand specific, or did I just choose poorly?

What's the best brand to buy/try?

I used to sit around and eat sardines and crackers with my dad as a kid. I have a feeling I would [bleep] my pants if I tried them again.

What's up with smoked chubs in the Great Lakes? We use to always get them when we headed up to Wisconsin to shoot their deer. No one has had them for like 5 years.

Gotta admit, those Polar's are dam tasty.

I'd forgotten I had em until Keith posted.
I just polished off that can with a little hot sauce and a cold beer. I started off putting them on saltines but abandoned the crackers about 1/4 of the way in.

Our local WlMrt actually stocks em but they'll probably quit now that I've discovered that brand so I better stock up.

I haven't ate a sardine in 35 years. I was probably 7 or 8 when I tried them but I remember I liked them. I believe I will give them another go. I eat the hell out of canned salmon strait out of the can with a fork.

I can't remember, do sardines have the head and guts in them? If so maybe that's why I haven't ate them in 35 years, but have ate tons of deep fried crappie. I'm gonna try them again heads or no heads.

I use to work with a guy that would have green chili sardines for lunch along with chocolate milk. It was a ghastly combination. sick
