queston, this summer we planted a variety of pepper plants, sweet peppers, jalopena, etc. They are going like gang busters, already had a meal of chille relenos. They seem to have fairly thick trunks, which leads me to wonder when planted do they live year round? Or is there a point they just die off? thx.

Most all peppers are annuals but you live in AZ so who knows what's possible in your climate. I do know a few Asian pepper varieties are considered perennials. Where's Woody when we need him??

Just asked my wife , she is from Thailand where they grow lots of peppers and if you take care of them they should last for two years maybe three if they do not get to cold or dry.

I was reading on a gardening site, that people bring them inside when the soil temp's get below 50, and supposedly they can live seven or eight years. One guy said he had one plant that was now ten feet tall. Giving him a couple hundred pods per year. curious in the post as to the truth of this. in phoenix we get below 50 in the winter, but rarely freezing.

Thinking the long term survivalist totally depends on the elements. It's not just a freeze that will cause a pepper to go dormant but sudden drops in temps as well.
If you have a prized pepper and it's too big to move indoors you may want to consider propagation by cuttings. My Mother takes that approach ever year and always has peppers. She says they are initially introduced to the indoor climate of her house. Thus, not going through any climate swings.

I have some ghosts that I had last year. I brought them in off and on all winter. They looked great all this year. I never got a bloom either year. I cut them off 3" above the soil and half are coming back. My buddy that gave me the seeds says it's been a weird year for his.

Out having fun. I just got a text from him. I cleaned up the yard today and the gutters on the house. Just tossed my last red savina plant as frost finally got it.
