Buddy has a Stainless, not shooting well.

What ammo has worked best, or bullets?

I had a Stevens 200 same twist rate and it liked the Speer 120gr. soft points.

Mine will shoot bullets up to 140 grains well. My best loads were 120 Nosler BTs over Big Game and 139 Hornady soft points over either H4350 or Big Game.

His previous employment must have been with Remington.

where did you come up with that twist rate? Savage only ever made barrels in 10 and 9-1/2 twist for the 7-08.

They did this a few years ago and then changed it back. Here is an old ad:

Wow. Just WOW! Why change at all to a slower twist when the trend is toward faster? Savage fumbled this one.

You can pick up a used 9-1/2 twist barrel for $50 or so.

Or shoot 120 BTs

I am sure it was a bean counter decision that they later regretted.

My dad and I each have a Stevens 200 with that twist. The 120 ballistic tip is what we found best accuracy with. The 139 Horn would group well enough to hunt but not nearly as well as 120 grain bullets.

This twist rate may have been why Academy sports was selling these rifles for $189 at the time.

My bud brought it over, called Savage and gave S#, confirmed 11.5 ROT. Taking it out soon w/120 Fusion to try, he has had horrible accuracy to date. If I cannot get it to shoot, I will tell him to ship to mfg and have them replace bbl.

Cluster is right, someone FUMBLED big time. HOW beans can be saved by choosing bare min spin I don't know. I would never own one. Otherwise seems like a well built rifle, actually was impressed over all the former Savage rifles I have handled.

I will try posting results.

If nothing else, I would buy a e.r. shaw barrel for it in the proper twist.

I havent seen a 7-08 yet that didnt love 120 Fusions. All 3 of mine shoot them excellently.
