The Beatles brought us boy bands. They can rot solely for that. By far the most over rated musical group in history IMO.

Any thing by Steely Dan, no thank you.
Pearl Jam= awful.
Poison and the other assorted "hair bands". At least the kids listening to it didn't have to tell their fathers they were gay, it was obvious.

The
BEATLES
invented, pioneered or influenced the majority of what we have today.
In 2009 they sold 44 million cd's in 6 weeks. No band in history could to that by a quarter.

Anyone can play the notes, it takes the RIGHT guys to play it RIGHT. Case in point - we opened for Keifer Sutherlands band the other night at a bar. They played Honkey Tonk Woman. They ruined it. It's impossibly hard to play the Stones RIGHT - the drums alone are beyond most people's skills.

And people think Charlie and Ringo are "easy simple drummers" compared to a stiff hack like Neil Peart. Think again. It's all in the swing and groove.

Stones make you dance and will get you laid - and that's what a rock and roll band should do.

This sounds like a style based comment. If rock is only about swing and groove for you, then Rush isn't your bag and I can see how you might consider Peart stiff. But a hack? No effin way.

IMO opinion - and I used to like Rush when I was young - Rush is music for people who think lots of notes are cool. Neil is not a hack, that was harsh, but he is VERY stiff, and boring. I find absolutely nothing interesting in their music anymore. Maybe it's an age thing, or the fact I've been playing for 40 years.

Give me Rainbow, or Black Sabbath, or Deep Purple - those bands have something going on if you want "hard rock".

Black Sabbath and Deep Purple- Now there are some groups I haven't heard in quite awhile. Used to listen to them in the barracks constantly when I was in the army. After the army still listened to them but wandered off into other music for a while.
Always hated Dylan. How the hell anyone can understand a word he sings is beyond me. He sounds like he is stoned out of his gourd all the time.

Bob

Listen to Apocalyptica cover Matallica and tell me the musical quality of Elvis or the Beatles even merits consideration.
I know Apocalyptica. There isn't a metal band on the planet that can write songs, sing harmonies, or make great tones like the Beatles. Elvis was Elvis, but the Beatles are the greatest pop rock band EVER.

I can put a cat in a blender, or play double bass drum at 220 BPM - doesn't mean I should. smile
Comparing metal to rock is like comparing a dik to a dilldo. laugh If you can play kick drums at 220 BPM YOU SHOULD! That's what makes metal pissed off and mean sounding. It shouldn't be done in rock cause rock is about groove.

Now, can you play double bass at 220 BPM while doing paradiddles? rlrrlrllrlrrlrllrlrrlrll grin

Well, no I don't, I couldn't tell you one from another by listening to them, which I don't. Quit paying attention about the time Buddy Holly passed. Ferlin Husky, George Jones and Merle Haggard for me, please. grin
