It's hard to see...is the scope touching his eye? Also, he'd do much better with some rear support. Kneeling like that allows a large amount of movement at the rear of the gun.

With such training for their sharpshooters the turn around on the new recruits must be a chore.
Now pit a Marine(not scout/sniper,just a 0311)with his optic sighted M16/M4 or a Army 11B with a similer equipped tool and you get to see where training pays off!

Why am I not suprised that a New York Times photographer is hanging out with an enemy sniper who is shooting at our troops.......and admires him?

You guys had pretty much the same thoughts that I did... The good news is that this guy knows nothing about "making the shot"... the bad news is the NYT is fully in Jayne Fonda land.
Would someone who knows how, please post that picture and it's discription straight onto this thread?

I would have to second the point, what I see wrong with this picture is the American troops have not spotted him yet and he is still alive!!!
Maybe the journalist will some day be fortunate experience what happens when the sniper shoots,misses, and is faced with Recon By Fire, then they will be really impressed with American fire power and learn a whole new respect for the attention to detail our troops give to enemy snipers.... wishing they were on the sending end instead of the receiving end of retaliatory fire power?

Thats a Draganov(sp) and it has a rubber eye piece that is about 5 inches long. He won't get scoped,its made to shoot like that...
I guess that its clear who's side the NYT is on...

Al-Jazeera: police arrest film crew in Haifa
The al-Jazeera Arab television station reported that one of its crews, including journalist-reporter Elias Karam, was arrested by police in Haifa, following a barrage of rockets on the city.
Apparently, the crew was arrested after broadcasting a live video from the area of Haifa's oil refineries. (AFP)
