I'm looking for experience from the Fire on these two bullets for deer from a .223. I have a 10 twist Tikka T3 and my dad's is an 8 twist, if that matters. I have Benchmark and Varget powder available.
Thanks,
P

My daughter took a small buck last year with the 64 gr Nosler BSB behind 25 gr. Varget out of a .223. The bullet was a complete pass through and left a half-dollar sized hole. There was little blood to trail and the buck ran 50 yards before piling up. Shot placement was in the lungs. I think with these bullets, a better shot might have been on the shoulder to break him down and prevent running.
She had shot at a buck earlier that was a lung shot and there was no blood to be found. With sucha small slug, they will kill but I have my doubts if looking for a blood trail to follow.

My son took his first buck earlier this year with a 60 gr partition over a somewhat modest charge of H4895. 24.5 gr to be exact.
He hit it a bit far forward on a slightly quartering away shot, punching the near shoulder, breaking a couple ribs, clipping the forward edge of the lungs, breaking another rib and punching the off shoulder on exiting.
Buck ran straight for about 70 yds before piling up. Not much blood to be seen in the tall weeds, fwiw.

When in doubt I fling triple shocks. This was recovery from a largish idaho mules bullet impact the vitals from 300. Not quite a drt but close. Wound chanel was masive. I used to shoot partitions in my 270 but poked to many little holes through deer with little damage. It's been 10 years since I loaded them

I also bought a bunch of the 64 gr BSB for my Hawkeye 223. Took me a while to find the powder it liked, but H335 at a max load shot extremely well. But it didn't group worth a darn till I got right to max. I haven't had a chance to try the bullet on a pig yet. I prob won't shoot a deer with it, though I'm sure I could.

I bought my Tikka from Shortactionsmoker. He worked up a load for the 64 BSB. I hit the range today and shot a few at 200. 5 rounds into an inch and a half. A hair over 3000 ft/sec.

I'd be keeping the 64 gr. at around 3,000 fps.. 3150 is getting hot.
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

in my opinion after testing the 75 grain Swift S2 and the 62 grain Barnes TSX on 3 deer and 3 pigs the limited sampling tells me that the TSX bullet is the best choice. I am dropping to the 53TSX to get more velocity, the 70 grain TSX is not needed on deer.
