For hunting or target shooting? Just load up some TSX or TTSX to SAAMI COL. I've had luck enough just doing that in all cartridges......for hunting.

I have had outstanding accuracy and killing power from both the Hornady 100 grain sp and the Nosler 100 grain BT. I like the price of the Hornadys better.

Most accurate is the Sierra 100 gr. MK, the one I use on game is the 100 gr. Hornady IL. Muddy

100 TTSX is THE bullet for the .257 caliber of rifles.

Tested a custom today with several different bullets. The Sierra Game King and Barnes TTSX were both impressive.

Not for a 14 twist 250 Savage. Or a 25-20. Would be real suspect in an old 12 twist 257 Weatherby as well.

Minor technicality/qualification. There are 80 Gr. TTSX's out there, too.

25-20?.......Don't think many of those guys are going to even think about pointy bullets.

100 grain hornady interlock. Have made a lot of peoples 25-06s that "don't shoot" shoot amazing with this bullet.

I prefer classic.

Not really. A blanket statement was made which was far from correct.

There are plenty of bolt action 25-20s for which spitzer bullets work well.

I like Barnes bullets just fine, but they are completely unnecessary on deer sized game, which is the standard hunting fare for most 25s.

I've also had better luck overall getting the 100 grain Matchking or 100 grain Speer HP to shoot really well in different 25s compared to the TTSX. Not that I would recommend either of those for big game, but they shot the best, which was the OP's question.

Somewhat off the subject, I tried 115 VLDs in a 1894 25-35 sometime back. I figured it was worth a try. Shot freaking awesome!

Sorry. I was thinking 25-20 was mostly lever action.

And Barnes do waaaaaay overpenetrate!

Winchester and Savage both made bolts, and Savage made a single shot in 25-20. Probably a bunch more that I don't know about.

The round was hugely popular in the first half of the 20th century, and though we don't see them around a whole lot these days, plenty of perfectly serviceable rifles are still sitting in people's closets.

I would like to have one of those pump action carbines. Somebody sold one on the classifieds recently. Would be FUN!

But that would require the non-pointy bullets.
