A VX 2 has been on my 270 Wby mag 35 years. It's good till legal shooting time is over. Vari-X II maybe. Yes, the VX-II has the same coatings as the old Vari-X III IIRC.

That depends on which vintage VX-II and which vintage Vari-X III are being compared. And the VX-2 has better coatings than all vintages of either.

Multi Coat 4 trumps magnesium fluoride......handily...... I just did a scope swap for that exact reason. The new stand location for a spot in my deer lease reminded me Saturday about veiling flare when the low angle sun got tough for the Vari-X II to handle.

The new VX1 is worlds better than any Vari-XII.....

Go far enough back and the Vari-X III was single coated too. I have three of them.

The vari-x II I have was replaced with a Bushnell Elite. It's like night and day as far as dawn and dusk performance. The old vari-x II served me well for many years...but it's old tech and my aging eyes prefer the more modern lens coating.
The 2-7x33 has since been mounted on al old Savage Model 23 in 32/20.

I have now decided to replace the small Leupold, I have a new Conquest 3-9x40, which was in the gun safe, and it is going on this week, just have to lap the rings.
I got to thinking, what am I saving it for !
