Thought I'd post a few "old school" photos from Northern Minnesota deer camp for you boys hitting the woods this week. My grandpa and his family homesteaded in the Oklee, MN area before the turn of the last century. Chances are if you know someone with last name of Bergeron or Lambert, we're kin. wink

Here's a bunch a hooligans at deer camp circa 1939. Grampa is third from the right. North of Oklee, not quite to Thief River.

Who needs trees for a good buckpole? This one is give or take a few years off the last one at the farm in Oklee. The original fuzzy wind-chimes! smile

Have a great opener! These old boys will be smiling and having a nip watching from their camp. smile

what area are you hunting? I drew up north in Perkins county, couldn't draw down here where I live frown

Thanks guys, this is my biggest deer with a rifle. I was pretty pumped when I got on him

Very ver nice deer,Ryan. Good going.

Dave,do you have plenty of 220 Swift brass?I saw some today at the gun shop where I work part time. It was a partial box of loads and some brass in one box and 20 reloads in the other box.

We hunt in the north part of Perkins south of Hettinger, ND.... I have hunted there since the late 1970's with my BIL and his BIL. Kids have joined us and now the third generation is cutting tags.

15 days before I go up for the fuzzy black trash can buster uppers then deer camp the day after the turkey eatin festival... Seems like a lifetime away.

Tom I got hooked on the bathroom door knob and broke it off trying to make nice with the door frame. The wife was pretty not happy with me.

I know a Bergeron or two. One of them is a wrasslin coach in my home town. Todd I think is his name.

I'm swamped with digging jobs right now but I'll still hit the woods for a couple of morning/evening hunts this weekend. I just can't get my head completely in the game with all the work still to do before the ground freezes hard. I guess the dirt will still be there after season to....

Good luck & safe hunts to everyone heading out this weekend.

looks like I'll be just south of Bison, not far from the antelope divide. took mama out tonight, had a couple juvenile buks chase off an old doe who wanted nothing to do with them. then saw them duke it out as youngins do. first time mama got to see deer posture and make like fighting, she thought it was pretty cool. I got a grin cause I love watching them regardless of the season.

Shoot dude...if you were born in MN you're probably related to a lambert! The ones I'm related to come from the Iron Range and the Duluth area.

'Got a pile of gear laying in the middle of the kitchen. Time to change clothes and load the truck after a restless night. It's time to go hunting! Pastor Josh will be here at 6 and we match up with T-zone and Mini-Me at 7:30. The northwoods beckons, singing it's Siren's song. It's a great time of year to be alive.

Once again, best wishes to all the Minnesota boys as we head out in search of deer. Thanks again to Northern Dave and Chickenbuck Nation for giving us this place to hang out.

Hunt hard, hunt safe, and go make some everlasting memories.

I'll see you guys on here later this week.

Best Regards,

Gophergunner.

Good luck everyone!!!

Stay safe, shoot straight, and wear a climbing harness. I don't want to see anyone from here in the hospital due to a fall.

Have a great hunt everyone!!!!

Ryan- I have hunted in the Slim Buttes on occasion. Otherwise we are prairie hunting. It has been good to us over the years with a number of mounter bucks on the wall for all of us. Some of the group apply for Harding County and have taken some dandy mule deer.
