I have a pre-64 Model 70 I am considering re-stocking. McMillan said they could sell me a Sako Classic inlet as a drop-in for the Model 70 action, including the barrel band (it costs a few extra bucks). Has anyone done this? Opinions? Pictures?

I have a pre 64, but in a compact, and a Sako classic but it holds a Sako L61r.

If I was to restock the pre64, Id go Sako Hunter. The compact has a bit to much drop for my face and the bolt handle precludes the scope from mounting any lower. Great stock, just a bit to much drop.

The Classic seems to be a bit higher? I like it plenty as well.

The Hunter has the raised cheek piece and looks to still be plenty trim.

GA: I have no pictures but when that stock originated I had a 300 win mag barreled action on a pre 64 M70. Gale McMillan said the Sako would fit and he inletted and bedded it for me. It was a great rifle with a bit of cast off as I recall and comfy to shoot.

A pal did two the same way, both pre 64's with Krieger barrels in 300 WM and 338 WM.

All of ours had custom contoured Kriegers without the barrel lump so how that works out I can't say.

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.
