Just took delivery of my 3rd Kimber Montana. My first two were smaller cartridges, 270 win and 7-08, but this one is 300 wsm. Recoil is very reasonable, it seems these stocks do a tremendous job of soaking it up. However there is more muzzle jump than the smaller ones for sure.
First trip out to the range it did not enjoy eating 168 B-Tips and H4350, but it liked factory Barnes 150 TTSX (3/4"). Yesterday I did some more load development with 165 SGK and various powders. It loved 72 grains of Superformance (little under 1/2").
Because of the muzzle jump, I was holding the forend with light downward pressure, where I would normally shoot with one hand.
I would be interested in hearing from all the Montana shooters as to the form they employ from the bench.
