"generate Revenue"...pay "court costs ahead of time"! WHAT FRIGGIN COURT COSTS? I've grown to dislike our Highway Patrol in my State because of this very attitude and never miss an opportunity to tell a trooper how I feel. They turn beet red; so what?! Government is totally out of control. Their hunger increases exponentially to their increasing size.

After the beet red and possibly the previous mentioned responses.........are you pretty much guaranteed a ticket or ??? X2 on the out of control!!

The guy that introduced this is,,, Allen graduated with honors from both the Houston Police Academy and the East Texas Police Academy. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University (SHSU).
Upon retirement from Houston Police Department, Representative Fletcher founded and was president / CEO of Resource Protection Management (RPM). Representative Fletcher is currently the only retired peace officer in the Texas House.

Did anyone bother reading the actual bill rather than the nutcase commentary?

I read it. It still smacks of revenue first law enforcement.
I have no grudge with LEO in general. I do have a grudge with the people being the big cash cow.
As to "nutcase commentary", you wouldn't understand what and why in a million years, now that you're The Man.

EGAD MAN!!!! Does NOBODY here drive much across Texas????
We've had traffic Cops like this for years, they are called "Sheriff's Deputies", only difference is before you had to mail off a check or money order.....

Glad you got a kick out of that. BTW, I liked the thread about your kids' recent hunt. It's smart to teach young hunters to drive. If you're back in somewhere and get hurt they can get you out and back to help.

I keep telling everyone that I'm The Man, but nobody will listen!
****Edited to add**** The bill is a proposed amendment to Section 103 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, which deals with collecting fines and court costs associated with unpaid tickets and arrest warrants for unpaid traffic tickets.
This bill has nothing to do with you paying for a speeding ticket when you receive it. It's about you paying for a ticket that you forgot to pay or that you have an outstanding warrant for, instead of going to jail for it.
It's essentially saying, "Hey, you said you'd pay for your last ticket and never did so now I've gotta arrest you and take you to see a judge. OR you can just pay it now and avoid the hassle." This amendment only applies to folks who have already had the opportunity to see a judge and jury and either didn't bother or did bother and were found guilty.

My bet is that there's some startup in Texas that can make the scanner thingies viable (or think they can) and they're getting a representative to introduce this bill to get their business off the ground.
I guarantee you some retired cop didn't come up with this on his own.

This got lost in the edit, but the scanner things just aren't viable.
They're gonna be expensive. They're gonna create a nightmare of policy writing and liability for the department. They're gonna need infrastructure to store, charge and download them....which will cost more money.
And most importantly they're gonna be one more piece of crap for cops to check in and out and carry to their cars, so they're just gonna get left at the station. You'll never get buy-in from the troops on this stupid idea unless it makes their job easier, which it won't.

Ya talking about things to scan a credit card? If so, I thought I saw, on TV, where you could get a device and an app, and just use a smart phone. I could be wrong as I usually skim through the commercials, and I don't own a smart phone. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.
