BEWARE!!!
I have owned, literally, dozens of Steyr rifles and the 260 is the only ONLY one I have always seen issues with.
To this day I have never seen one that shot better than 1.5-2".
The compact is rare, mountain with iron sights. I have one in 308, but your rolling the dice with the caliber.

Those are 9 twist, right? Do you think it was a bullet weight/length stabilization issue Ringworm?

Couldn't say. But I've owned 223, 243, 7-08, 308, 376, 25-06, 270, 7x64, 30-06, 7mm and 300 mag and never had one that was the least bit finiky about putting and weight into little tight groups.
I'd suspect its a twist issue. Nothing else makes logical sense given the barrels are hammer forged on carbide mandrels.
My guess is they inadvertently used 6.5x54 twist .

That's odd, another Campfire member TexasShooter has two .260 Steyr SBS rifles and they both shoot very well. In fact, he and I sat in a deer blind together two weeks ago and he shot a doe with one at 150 yards and dropped it with one shot.

I guess is all in the expectation my prohunters rarely break an inch at 200.
I'm glad for him. But I've seen enough not to roll the dice with the combination.

I sold my steyr 260to Texas Shooter. It's capable of 1/2 groups. I've owned several steyr rifles, all are if excellent quality and are fine shooters.
