I was just wondering what powder you prefer under the 40gr Nosler. I just scored some Varmmaggedon 40s and want to sling them out of my 222 mag. There isn't a ton of data using newer powders in the deuce mag.
Thanks.

Shrapnel is busy beating the schit out of some rioters right now, so I will field this question for him.
shrapnel was the first to use the plastic tipped bullets and has found the V-Max to suit his needs better than any of the other 40 grainers.
H335 goes under it.
Some people will tell you H335 is no good. Those people are idiots.
Good luck,

h335 works best for me, though I prefer the 40 gr BT's. BL(C)-2 works about as well in my 223.

29.5 grs of Benchmark is a good load for 40's out of the 222 Mag.
Newer powders for the 222 Mag. can be found in .223 data, but the best 222 Mag data out there to start at is with the 5.56 NATO. Be aware it goes to 62,000 PSI and velocities are often in shorter barrels, so take each into account and don't go loading it into a European combo rifle or Savage 340....

Good stuff and thanks guys. I have some trouble finding powders up here, haven't seen a pound of 335 or benchmark in going on 3 years. Seems like the newer powders show up more often not sure why. I had thought of using 5.56 data and have used max 223 loads as a starting point in the past. I just don't usually shoot over a chronograph, the cold seems to suck the life out of them fast and I'm usually busy fishing in the summer. My rifle is a 700 with a 20" 9twist Shilen bedded into a First gen TI stock, everything but the barrel is out of my spare parts bin. Originally was going to do a 223ai but had dies and a few hundred unfired deuce mag brass in that same parts bin.
I've been working with the 53tsx in it with Cfe223 and having good results. Have good loads for the 50btip, 55btip, and 55fmj but wanted to try some 40s for fur friendliness and because they are cheap.

Travis,
Shrapnel wasn't just the first to use plastic-tipped varmint bullets, he invented them. The royalties he gets from Nosler and Hornady pay for all the little cans of Coca-Cola he gives away.

Shrapnel invented the tungsten carbide tip bullet. He chews tungsten and spits them out.
