Very nice rifle and my favorite model. The history of the gun will always add to the thrill of taking it shooting/hunting. Character is what I find most intriguing about any rifle, Bill

No, maybe there are still the Holy Grail: an 1895 SRC barrel band carbine. Do you two know how many there might be in Canada?

No, missed out on one in Edmonton that had the wrong butt stock on it. And I don't know where that one went.

Don't be. It just happened I was at the right place at the right time with money in my pocket. Sometimes I just get lucky and that's all it is. I can remember a certain pre-war RS that came my way completely by surprise.

Steve - those are two critical components: having enough money in the pocket and being in the right place at the right time. When it comes to something like a M1895F, the number of opportunities that come along during the course of a half-century or so can usually be counted on one hand.

I can do that on one FINGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the problem with situations as rare as these. If you say to yourself, "this one is a bit high, I'll just wait for the next one to come along"... well... when it comes to a M1895F, hopefully you are a very very young man when you say that... because you are very likely going to need a lot of time to work with. Steve - I know this is one of the reasons you decided to not simply wait for the next one to come along.

The problem is that so far as I know there's not a single person within a 90 mile radius other than me that would know what it is if you batted them up side the head with it. That rifle and the circumstances that led up to the deal that made me the owner is priceless to me.

If it were a M1895 SCR carbine - I would just need the opportunity, money matters usually take take of themselves.

Couple of weeks ago I mentioned my finding of a 91 years old Savage Model 1920 rifle in 300 Savage caliber. Well, in the meantime there's been moose and deer season in my area. In between I put some time into writing a review on this rifle which I posted on the french forum Corsicarms2. Here's the review with a couple of pics of my rifle. Sorry, it's written in french but then, the pictures talk for themselves: http://corsicarms.activebb.net/t31707-savage-modele-1920-a-verrou-et-percussion-centraleWhile on the topic of the 250-3000 Sav. caliber, I ordered a contemporary Savage Mod 14 American Classic two years ago. Seems it was made especially for me, for it took over 6 months to have it delivered. The rifle comes with a 22" barrel with a 1~10" twist rate. I had a hard time getting Remington ammo for it and have reloaded some of the spent shells with 110 an 115 Nosler bullets. It is an absolute tackdriver. Unfortunately Savage has again discontinued the manufacturing of 250 Sav. rifles and the few Mod 14's that have been produced may well become collection items in the short future. So long! Oldshot

Curious, is this gun in France or Quebec?
I ask because a lot of the folks on that forum see to be from France but ordering a model 14 is something someone from Quebec would find easier.

The gun is in Quebec, as I am myself presently. I have lived and hunted in France (and Europe) for more than a decade and have been active on several french hunters/ sport shooters foras as a contributor and moderator.
I am acquainted with Savage Arms for many years. My Mod. 14 was ordered through Savage Canada.
Former Chairman/ owner Ronald Coburn did a fabulous work at reviving this company. I visited the Westfield plant in the early 90's and found the Savage employees extremely motivated.
Same can be said about the canadian staff in Lakefield.
Savage does quite well in Europe where it's products have gained a good reputation in the field of long distance competition.
Hopefully ATK will capitalize on the Savage employee's know-how and dedication.

JMS, That M1920 you found is in incredible condition. WOW! As for the Savage American Classic Model 14s, I fully expect both the 300 Sav. and the 250-3000 in the M14 to become collectable before very long. And yes these rifles are very accurate!
