Need some help interpreting the lever boss codes on my EG 308. There are two. One has SP and the other 16H. They are located side by side and are small enough for my ageing eyes to need a magnifying glass. S/N is 9xx100.
Thanks, Steve

SP is just a proof mark. Nothing to do with date code.

The "SP" stamping should be on the barrel. I wonder if it was hit with the wrong stamp first? Never seen the "SP" in the lever boss area. If it can happen it will.

The SP is right next to the 16 H. I would make some pictures and post them however I'm having troubles with my photobucket account and it will not let me copy or paste.
Thanks Steve

Yeah, that's definitely different. Normal date code: Normal SP stamp:

What matters is the letter, not the number. Is it a B? If so, 1950.

Good question, sure looks like a 6 or 9 to me. Maybe G? What's the serial number, we can probably narrow down the year based on that.

That is the problem. I cannot figure out what the letter is! Helps if I'd read the whole thread. Not a B, no 308 then. Must be a G, 1955.

Yep, serial number puts it as 1955, which would be a G.
