JB, thanks for the interesting article in Rifle on the 35 Rem and the old Remington autoloader (model 11?). i owned one of those once but never fired it. How's that for loonyism? I did, however, pick up another 35 recently, a Rem model 760. I really wanted a 30-30 but this 760 came into my sphere of consciousness and I succumbed. It has a few extra holes in it, and the dealer is smart enough to know when to offer a modified gun at a price lower than collectors would pay for pristine specimens. In limited shooting it seems to shoot well. Someone with "Load From a Disc" or similar such software, please tell me the predicted velocity of a 220gr Speer over 34gr of H322 (it's a pinch over published max). Thanks. Anyone care to share their field experiences with the 35 Rem cartridge? Have yet to try mine on game and heard it kills a bit quicker than the 30-30. Anyone hunt game larger than deer with it, such as elk?

I've had a couple of those 760 35Rems over the years. They will digest surprisingly heavy loads w/o problems. Most loads you will find will be suited for lever actions so will work fine in your 760.
The last one I owned I had the chamber reamed to 358Win. Just drop in a 308 mag and you're set with no other alterations. Not a bad thought for a gun like yours with extra holes.

I killed this doe on Thanksgiving with my dad's 1960 Marlin. Load was a 180 Speer FP over some old RL12. It worked well. I don't know how many deer dad has killed with this rifle but it still works. I always liked the idea of a 760 in 35, it just seems cool.

Big Redhead,
Glad you liked the article. The Remington sat around for at least a year (maybe closer to two) before I fired it--but then I finally did!

I had the identical Marlin with maybe(?) the identical scope. Mine was a Weaver 2.5x20. Great gun. I only sold it because I had another 35 Rem Model 141 and Marlins in 356 and 444. My 35 Rem...

It's a Weaver K2.5. The original scope was an El Paso K3 that died back in the 90s.

I want one, e-mailed Remington to see if they are ever going to produce ammo or brass again in my lifetime, (you reading this Remington?)
I posted their response in another thread basically claim to produce it on a regular schedule and didn't know yet when the next run was.
I haven't seen it in two to three years because I actually look for it for Campfire members who I know have been looking too.

Thank you for contacting Remington. We still manufacture two different rounds in .35 Remington. These rounds are not in production every month, and are not scheduled to be in production over the next two months.
While it is now late in the year, we shipped many tens of thousands of the 200 grain CoreLokt round out this year. Neither has been discontinued and both should be in production next year. Please feel free to contact us early next year when we will have the 2015 production schedule.
Thank you and best regards, Remington Customer Services

QL gave me 2030 fps with a PSI of 35098 with the default settings. I saw a couple of Rem M81s for sale locally I was considering myself to go with the 336.

Those 141s are very slick. There's been one for sale in a LGS for at least a year. It's very tempting, but at $750, just a bit much as a "just because" piece.
A 760 would be great, but I've never seen one in the flesh, ever. For some reason, most I see are .270s, followed by '06s.
What fresh Hell is this?

That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Hodgdon's online max is 32.5gr of H322 for 1870 fips, but I wanted at least 2000 and figured the 760 is strong enough to do it comfortably. My loads of 34gr shot tightly at 100 yds, and extraction was effortless. With the period Weaver K4 in Weaver mounts, that rifle looks and points just right. One thing I want to do is carve a new forend for it that extends back to the receiver when the action is closed. I like to shoot with my elbow supported by my [large] belly, and my support hand just in front of the action. With the "corncob" factory handle way out at the front end of the mag tube, my elbow is left unsupported and the crosshairs dancing across the target. When hunting, there is not always a handy rest nearby to lean on, nor time to get to one. Hodgdon also lists 38gr of Varget for a skosh over 2000 fips, but that proved to be a compressed load, and I don't much like compressed loads.

What about 35R performance on game? There has to be people here that have this experience. Do the 220gr Speers always exit deer regardless of placement? Anyone use it on elk and/or moose? Enquiring minds want to know.

My Dad and I have been using a modified 35 Remington (1.8 inch case length) in a Rem 700 SA bolt gun for deer hunting the past three years. We've used 200 gr Accubonds and 200 gr FTX's around 2300 FPS. Every shot has put nice holes on both sides of a deer. Ranges have been 30 to 180 yards. Most go down for good or move off 30 or 40 yrds. Nothing more or less than other cartridges.
I went on an elk hunt at the Whittington Center in NM this year. One of the guides' truck gun was a well used Marlin 336C with an inexpensive 4x scope and Remington 200 gr Corelokts. He had faith that this combo would put an elk he was hunting on the ground or sort out a wounded elk from a hunter he was guiding. I have no personal experience with anything larger whitetails.

My impression is the 220 Speer is a little tough at 35 Rem velocities and the 180 may be a little better if deer are your primary target. I prefer at least 200's in my 35s (though I'm toying with trying the 180 TTSX in my 358 Win). Have you ever read the write up on the Marlin forum on bullet tests in the 35 Rem?

I love my 141 in 35 Remington. I bought a 336 also. I ended up giving the 336 away to a landowner who has some real nice river breaks and woods mixed in with open pasture. Going out there Friday with my 54 muzzle loader. He's bitching about the scarcity of ammo. I'll be bringing him some.

Went on Gun Broker and there are people paying $45-70 a box for Remington 200 gr green box! Leverevolution running a little over 40 when you figure in shipping. Crazy times

There's a couple local stores that carry them ~ $30. I prefer Remington ammo, but I'm buying Federal cause it is on the shelf. I'd think that producing ammo right now would be like printing money. To bad the manufacturers(Remington) can't kick up their production a little!! BTW, MD please report how your 35 does on your B license.
