What is your go to powder for 6mm Rem with 70-80 grain pills? I have IMR-4064 and think it will be very hard to beat but wonder if there are other powders that may give better velocities at same accuracy. Wondered about trying Varget or RL15 in this range of bullet weights.

The most accurate load in my 6mm Rem is the Hornady 87 gr BTHP with Win 760 under 1/2 inch consistently . Back in the 70's i shot the Sierra 75 gr HP and nothing i tried best H380 with this bullet
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

have one, that I got the barrel, and chambered and mounted for $75... so I did a lot of testing just to see.....
tried 15 different powders, with 75 grain HPs from Hornady...
only two powders didn't cut the mustard...
4064, IMR 4895 and 3031 were right up there, along with RL 15 and Varget.....
but the hands down winner was H 414....
even tho it had a fair velocity deviation spread, it was still the most accurate at 100, 200, 300 and 600 yds...

My 788 Rem 6mm likes AA4064 under a 75 gr Vmax. Meters easier than IMR4064. Kind of like a 4064SSC.

Mine was the 6mm Rem AI, but VV N-160 gave really good results with high velocity.

I shot the barrel out of few 6 Rem's on p. dogs, factory and customs.
760 is very easy on barrels, IMR 4064 IS NOT. That said, the 80g Sierra Blitz with IMR 4064 at 3500 fps was my favorite load for many, many coyotes. I shot out a Shilen SS match barrel in 6 Rem with a HOT load of IMR 4064 with the 80g Sierra Single shot pistol bullet, later went to the Blitz.
760 with the 60g and Federal 210's is a solid 4000 fps with very tiny groups, federal 210's.
70g with 760 with federal 210's is unreal fast with very tiny groups.
A friend shoots the 80g Sierra with R#19 and is getting 3600 out of a 26" custom, short freebore.

What I am seeing here and on several other forums is 414/760 are popular choices. Looks to be at its best with 80's so I may try it with the Sierra Blitz's I have. I think I will still use IMR-4064 with the light bullets if the 414 doesn't seem to be as accurate. Not too worried about barrel life as I wont be shooting 30-50 loads a year with that combo. May try H-4350 with the 80's as well.

Have a 243, no 6mm, but the case capacity is close to the same. All I shoot in it are 75gr Hornady V-Max's. IMR 4350 has worked very well, R19 has also worked well. Finally settled on H414/W760. Good shooting powder. Slight edge to mag primer but not a lot.

10gaugemag: My 6mm Remington does best with IMR 4350 when using both the 70 and 85 grain bullets. I have not shot any 80 grainers to date. Best of luck to you. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
