Question for the boys with Unit 61 experience. I have more than enough points to hunt first rifle season. My wife doesn't. She would like to go along for a cow hunt. 3rd and 4th season cow tags can be had with no points. I've never been there in November. What's it like up along the Divide Road? Up in Grand County where I live 4th season is often a full on winter situation. Is 61 the same...would one have to hunt the lower parts of the unit, or is the Divide Road passable that late? Thanks for any advice.

I hunted 61 in 2012/13 during 4th season. The divide road was open both years. Last year it snowed more and the roads were muddy and the divide road was fine, but I didn't drive on it after it snowed during the hunt.

Besides snow up high you need to be ready for a lot of mud on those roads in 61, be sure to bring chains. They can be a real mess. Not so much the Divide road, but the ones down lower to the west get pretty sloppy.

It depends on the year. This year it was pretty much dry for the late seasons. I'd plan on coming in from down below for 4th season.
