Great photos. That's hard to hunt in, let alone lose the gloves and gut the deer in minus temps!

Great photos. That's hard to hunt in, let alone lose the gloves and gut the deer in minus temps! It definitley tests your mettle for sure. I tore down the bolts and cleaned them of any lube so that we wouldn't have firing pin issues. Maybe i was too finicky but its just one less thing to worry about in the cold....

I'd be using some tall rubber gloves for gutting to keep the old mitts dry and keep a few baby wipes tucked inside the coat for cleanup. Can't imagine bloody hands in those temps!

No problem thank you for adding to my thread MB! We sure had tough sledding this year. Other than this buck, we saw two spikers in 8 outtings and under 20 does. Even the wolves pulled out. We saw hardly any wolf sign compared to 9 actual sightings of wolves last year. When the wolf packs move out, you know there is less game. As for elk , i saw a herd of 9 cows this year and not one moose. We bought supplemental doe tags and chose to fill only one of them and chalk the other ones up as "donations" My general bull elk went unfilled as well. Hopefuly an easy winter will help things along..

Those are some dandy bucks! Congrats to all you guys knocking down those studs.
They seem like once in a lifetime bucks but for some of you guys they're once a year!
Well done.....

The misses killed one a couple years ago that was all body and no antlers. Fine by us as we process our own wild game and consume it all as well. Can't eat antlers.....

I had one like that several years ago in Manitoba. Saw the body well but not the head gear. Pulled the trigger and was a little astonished when I walked up on him.

Leverboy, I shot this one the week before in Ontario. Nearly 600lbs (dressed) of whitetail in just over a week.
