whoever done that knew it, and hoped someone wouldn't notice.

If the insurance is right you might parlay this into a McMillian.

As bad as it looks,it can be fixed, but would most likely have to be refinished.

this is why I always ship guns in a wood box, ones that have their own strength ,and don't use the rifle inside to resist bending.

What did the box look like?

That just plain sucks. I got a scope one time from Midsouth that was bent. Shippers suck sometimes.

Lots of folks don't know how to pack stuff either. Not saying this was the case.

Very true, but in this instance, it almost looks like a 'Demolition Expert' down at FedEx had his hand in this... I am sure it is a freak accident...but the end results should make the insurance due pretty obvious... Sorry the OP has to go thru this tho... pretty frustrating..

But, that IS the first response - "Inadequately packed" I had a 3 month battle with UPS over that (I won!)

I got a good deal on a rifle a local dealer bought from someone back east, it arrived with a broken stock, right at the wrist or grip they may call it. It was a Ruger heavy barrel in 22/250, got it cheap and bought a standard barrel channel Ruger stock, but kept the stock and just glued the broken one together, it is still holding up. But I would have been ticked if that had been me getting that rifle you posted.

Just received a rifle from a very respected seller here, through USPS. Beautiful rifle. I have been admiring, tinkering, working with it since I got it.
Unfortunately, the front sight post was ridiculously bent when I picked it up. I know in my heart, in my conversations with the seller, he would not intentionally send me this rifle with that front sight the way it was when I received it.
So, I will not even bring it up to him. Period. End of story. I am thankful I got the opportunity to acquire the gun. The rest, I can fix or have my peoples that can, do the rest. *USPS took no responsibility, nor accepted any damage consideration. Nuff said.*
Like my Dad told me. You gotta trust somebody at some point, or the rest doesn't mean anything.

Here is the box, notice the crease right at the end of Remington. It was tightly wrapped with bubble wrap and styro-foam. When it left my possession the gun didn't move in the box. But that being said surely that break wouldn't have come from normal handling regardless of what was in the box...? No idea why people ship rifles in boxes that state "hey...there's a rifle in here". Remington boxes are easy to turn inside out so there's nothing on the outside, but the buyer can turn it back and have the original box. I do it all the time. Either that or stick the factory box inside another box. Ain't that difficult.

So I was working a trade with a fine member of this Forum... FedEx delivers a day ahead of schedule (Kudos to them...right?) Here is what the FFL found in the box: This is my rifle to him. Now I'm in a 5 to 7 day review period to see what the outcome will be. How flipping hard do you think it got wrapped around something for that to happen? So far they have been courteous but we shall see. Didn't ship it in a hardcase? They are real cheap insurance when shipping a rifle to someone...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Gun wholesalers even ship the factory boxes inside of other more substantial boxes when they ship to dealers. I'm sorry for both parties to this transaction. It has to be disheartening.
