Anyone here who has an FX-II 4x33 with heavy duplex or P&D reticle care to chime in with how they like it? I'm specifically interested in the thickness of the reticle in the 4x33 compared to, say, in a 6x42 or one of the variable scopes. Pictures of the reticles would be much appreciated if you have them. TIA!

I don't have any pics, but I LOVE my Matte FX-II 4x33 HD on my 375 Ruger Alaskan. I don't have an HD6x42,but I wish mine with the regular Duplex was an HD, and I wouldn't buy another without getting it with the HD. I do have a HD 2.5x20, and the reticle on the 4X seems a little thinner than that on the 2.5x. I wouldn't want to go back to a non-HD 4x. Hope that helps.

I've got both the 4x33 and 6x42 with HD. They look the same to my eye. The 4x33 is on a .22 and I have no problem shooting a 3-inch piece of round steel at 100. I'm a big fan of fixed Leupolds and HD reticle.
Just remembered I also have a 6x36 HD as well

The second 4X, FXII I bought, I ordered from the Custom Shop with a Heavy Duplex. After using for a while, I decided I didn't like it. I have two 6X42's with Heavy Duplexes, an older M8, and the new FX3. I really like it in those scopes. But, in the 4X, the reticle is too heavy, and the thin opening was not worth much for quick ranging on big game like deer or elk. It's possible I got the wrong one for that scope. The Post & Duplex I have in my older M8, 4X is not as heavy as the HD I had in my FXII. That one I'm happy with. I haven't, however, evaluated it as a quick ranging reticle. E

FX-II 4X Truck is 140 yards away. The center of the reticle almost covers the white boxes @ 100 yards. If the tube was longer I'd buy one for my 30-06.

At 3x with my VX-2 3x9. The P&D is my favorite reticle. I have a FX-III 6x42 with the heavy duplex too. 9X

My daughter's rifle has an older M8 with the heavy duplex. Zero complains from either of us. It's not a target scope, so I could care less about it covering part of a target. Works great on critters.

Leupie will make the P&D reticle for you with a "thin" center crosshair. That's even nicer.
I plan to call them and see if they would make a heavy duplex with a "thin" center. That would be ideal.
But, the standard duplex in the 4x is just about perfect as is anyway.

Yeah, at least theoretically. I have an FX-III that's been to the Custom Shop twice now to have the reticle changed out to the thin P&D. The first time it came back with a #4, the second time with the regular P&D. I've kind of given up on the Custom Shop for now, as I'm tired of shipping the scope to them. Even long phone calls discussing exactly which reticle I wanted didn't help.

DD are you talking about the M8 std duplex or one in the gloss FX? I believe the FXII matte only comes in wide.
