I'm using 1-1/2" fire hose to hang my steel. It lasts quite a while compared to chains and cable. Tractor Supply also sells 4" conveyor belt that can be spit into 2" strips and used the same.
I built a square A stand from 2 x 1 steel tube. I use a wood stand made from 2 x 4. My local range has built in target holders that work well for it.

Where would be a good place to look for used fire hose? I'm guessing that's rubber with a canvas-like sheath? The local fire trucks have a real good supply but the firemen get kind of uppity when you try to salvage a few feet from them...

That's exactly what I've used for mine. They work well and the rubber soaks up direct hits but hits at the edge of the target spray shrapnel that cuts the rubber in two pretty badly.



I tried doubled over garden hose but it's a bit narrow for the 3/8" bolts. Nylon webbing stretches out too much. The rubber mudguard strips work fine for now but always looking to see if things can't be improved.
