The Kernals are small and easy to meter. Temps is the low 20s and a good stiff wind. Not an accuracy day.
You can put a lot of this slower powder in a x55 case and 270 case
Forbes 24B 24" barrel
In choosing loads I started with RL22 and RL25 data.
Shooting 140 Berger VLD's in the 6.5x55 and burning RL26 OAL 3.150
50.0 grains .... 2,794 51.0 grains .... 2,856 52.0 grains .... 2,914
No "classic" signs of pressure, easy extraction.
RL 23 and 140 Berger VLD's
I shot one load of 47.0 grains for an average of 2,750.
270 Winchester Rem 700 Ti 22" barrel
Burning RL26 and shooting 130 Berger VLD's OAL 3.330
I tested one load of 63.0 grains for an average of 2,980. Low ES of 5 on this load.
I seated the Bergers, (which don't have much shank) out at the end of the neck of the 270 case. Not much to hold on to.
My RL 26 load and 150 LRAB's didn't read. I'll have to try them later again.

I could not make RL 25 work in my 264, I would like to try '26. I wonder when it will hit the shelves around here. H'mmm might be of some use in the 6-284 as well.

Interesting I would like to try RL26 in my 280 Ackley ! I think it would be ideal for the 280 Ackley. 160 grain and higher. I also think it would world great in the 260 Remington shooting 140's.

RL-22 = RL-23, but temp stable + anti-copper fouling additive
RL-25 = RL-26, but temp stable + anti-copper fouling additive
At least that is what I've been told so loads & performance should be same/same; that would make '26 too slow to be optimum in a 270, especially with 130's.

Nosler 150 gr Partition Reloder 26 Fed 210 60.8 grains for 3,022 http://www.alliantpowder.com/reload...ight=150&shellid=63&bulletid=3673K shooting 150's is not slothful for a 270 Win, that's for sure. I figured the 130's would be to light but gave it a go anyways to give me an idea of difference http://www.alliantpowder.com/reload...ight=150&shellid=63&bulletid=181Also, because RL26 is smaller you can put more in a case. RL26 should work better in certain cases. You get the slow powder benefit of lower pressures and possibly be able to put more in a case for faster speed. I've use quite a bit of RL 25 in the 260 (once fired Lapua brass) with good results (2,790 mv). Now that 26 is out I would expect/guessing to see another 50 fps. I'll test some out soon here to know.

No, it's not & is what I get with 150's & RL-22 in mine with 24" barrels; 2950-2975 in a 22" barrel. Trying to get my hands on some of the Nosler LR Accubonds to try but I just cannot find any right now. A .625 G1 BC at 3,000 FPS looks really good to me........... MM

Shooting Nosler 150 LRAB's
My rifle likes RL26 and 62.0 for a low ES average of 3,020 mv.
Really likes it!
Lapua brass Win primer
Tried 57.0 and 58.0 grains of RL23 for 2,970 top speed.
Edited to change to 57 and 58

Anyone know if Alliant is coming out with R-18 and R-20? That is, the temperature insensitive versions of R-17 and R-19.

I do not believe that Reloder 17 is as sensitive as some make it out to be...... I never had a problem , and the temps here vary 100 degrees or so from season to season.................

How close to the lands on bullet seating do the LRAB's like? On the RL-23, did you mean 57 & 58 grains instead of 47 & 48? MM

More load testing today with the newer powders including IMR 4451.
6.5x55 Lapua brass Rem primer COAL 3.180
Nosler 129 LRAB IMR 4451 46.8 2,930 average, low ES This load rocks for accuracy at .4 (I'm guessing that this would be a great powder in the 260 Rem.)
140 Berger VLD RL 26 52.5 2,945 2,964 2,937
........................................................... 270 Win
150 Nosler Partition RL 26 63.0 Nosler brass Fed 215 Mag primer I bumped the COAL to 3.40 from 3.35
3,080 3,074 3,103 3,061
Accuracy was just under an inch with the cold bore shot. 3 shots were touching. The Partition likes the slower powder more than the LRAB.
Absolutely no "classic" pressure signs, easy bolt lift, no marks on case head, primers looked good, ect.
I think I likey a lot.
This was a reply I received from Alliant Powder

Wondering if a case full of re26 in the 300 win mag might be awesome....might tread on the heals of a wby. W/the smaller denser kernal capacity w/180 bullets might be in the 83-87 grain area?

Hmmm...RL-26 and 150 gr NP's at 3k in a .270 Wiinchester. How long a barrel is being used for your data SU-35?

BACK TO SQUARE ONE ON THIS ONE!I asked Alliant Powder this question in regards to RL 26 compared to RL 25, as I wanted to start testing powder in my 7mm Wby. In your load guide for the 7mm Wby and 175 grain bullet. Why are you loading RL 26 at 70.5 grains and RL 25 at 74.0 Grains? Seems you could load more grains of RL26 being it is a slower powder. Alliants respons..... Bob, I was recently informed that the burn rate of 26 actually falls out between Reloder22 and Reloder 33, not Reloder 25 and Reloder 33. This would mean that 26 is faster than 25 thus the difference in load data. Also, burn rates are not the whole equation when it comes to load data. The load data that is on our website is tested load data and meets all the industry standards. Thanks, Shoot Straight DuaneVB CCI/SPEER/ALLIANT POWDER 2299 Snake River Ave. Lewiston, ID What does this mean?? falls out between Reloder22 and Reloder 33,

"Reloder 26 is definitely slower burning than Reloder 25, so there shouldnt be any confusion there either."
Seems by the latest report, they, Alliant, has changed their minds.
I don't think they really know yet.
I'm going to hold off buying more till I know more about these powders.

I really wonder about alliant sometimes.....I think they still have in their advertising (and on the container label) that mr4000 is a spherical powder.....shazam....open a can and its a short cut kernal.

Any more testing done on the 150gr/RL26 combo? Hitting 3000 with it is sweet. I've got a new 270 and a pile of 150gr Fusions I'm thinking of putting some RL26 under.

Anybody know where a guy can get a hold of some RL-23 or 26? Their load data looks promising for 7mm wsm. Thanks, bludog

I bought some of both at Whittaker Guns outside of Owensboro, Kentucky a couple of weeks ago, but don't know if they still have any.

Whiptail, I've found RL 17 to be very temperature stable, at least in my application!! I do all of my load development on 90 degree F plus days, and did testing of rounds at -4 F (allowed rifle and ammo to reach ambient before test). According to my chrno(and my surprise), I actually gained 8fps at -4! memtb

From what I have seen these new powders don't offer much more in performance compared to RL 17, I am getting 2980 in my 270 wsm with the 150 partition using 57 gr of Rl 17, it takes about ten more grains of RL 26 to gain another hundred fps. My load shoots groups under 3/4 inch, I talked to a tech at Alliant a few minutes ago and he said that the main advantage with RL 23 and 26 is the reduction in copper fouling

Interesting, I have a couple pounds each of 23 and 26, will have to give them a whirl. I've been pleased with the Speed & accuracy of the 270 with R22 under 130's. If you can push 150's up to 3100 that's even better.

I've shot up about 3# a piece of 23 and 26.
22 is done for me. I'll take 23.
I've got data for the 270wsm, 7wsm, 300wsm, and 300 Dakota.
Some speeds with my guns:
7wsm 26/150 LRAB = 3,200 270wsm 23/130NAB = 3,350 300Dakota 26/150tsx = 3,600 7wsm 23/120tsx = 3,450
All of these speeds were measured at 50 degrees F and showed NO pressure in my guns.

Based on Alliants data it would take about five grains more to get another 30 or 40 fps. Also based on their data a 270 win is only 66 fps behind the 270 wsm, the wsm should be out running the standard 270 by a wide margin, when using RL 17 the difference in speed in much greater.

I've been looking locally for some RL26 to try for the past few months with no luck. Would like to try this powder in my 300 RUM and for another Kimber Montana 7 WSM that I'm about to have put together.

ewc What are you loads in the 7mm WSM? Powder weight, accuracy & barrel length. I shoot a 7WSM and have been looking for some to try. It looks amazing according to Alliant web site. Have you had a chance to try imr 7977 in the 7 WSM? I think this might be a good powder too.

62.0 grains of RL 26 will just physically fit into my new 270 Win Nosler brass. The book max load of 61.8 is into the case neck. That long sleek LRAB is a good powder compressor.

Does anyone know if 26 is temperature sensitive in the swede with the 140 berger?
Thanks
