The Kernals are small and easy to meter.
Temps is the low 20s and a good stiff wind. Not an accuracy day.

You can put a lot of this slower powder in a x55 case and 270 case

Forbes 24B 24" barrel

In choosing loads I started with RL22 and RL25 data.

Shooting 140 Berger VLD's in the 6.5x55 and burning RL26 OAL 3.150

50.0 grains .... 2,794
51.0 grains .... 2,856
52.0 grains .... 2,914

No "classic" signs of pressure, easy extraction.

RL 23 and 140 Berger VLD's

I shot one load of 47.0 grains for an average of 2,750.

270 Winchester Rem 700 Ti 22" barrel

Burning RL26 and shooting 130 Berger VLD's OAL 3.330

I tested one load of 63.0 grains for an average of 2,980.
Low ES of 5 on this load.

I seated the Bergers, (which don't have much shank) out at the end of the neck of the 270 case. Not much to hold on to.

My RL 26 load and 150 LRAB's didn't read. I'll have to try them later again.

I could not make RL 25 work in my 264, I would like to try '26. I wonder when it will hit the shelves around here. H'mmm might be of some use in the 6-284 as well.

I think it would be ideal for the 280 Ackley. 160 grain and higher.

I also think it would world great in the 260 Remington shooting 140's.

RL-22 = RL-23, but temp stable + anti-copper fouling additive

RL-25 = RL-26, but temp stable + anti-copper fouling additive

At least that is what I've been told so loads & performance should be same/same; that would make '26 too slow to be optimum in a 270, especially with 130's.

Nosler 150 gr Partition
Reloder 26
Fed 210

60.8 grains for 3,022

http://www.alliantpowder.com/reload...ight=150&shellid=63&bulletid=367

3K shooting 150's is not slothful for a 270 Win, that's for sure.

I figured the 130's would be to light but gave it a go anyways to give me an idea of difference

http://www.alliantpowder.com/reload...ight=150&shellid=63&bulletid=181

Also, because RL26 is smaller you can put more in a case. RL26 should work better in certain cases. You get the slow powder benefit of lower pressures and possibly be able to put more in a case for faster speed.

I've use quite a bit of RL 25 in the 260 (once fired Lapua brass) with good results (2,790 mv).
Now that 26 is out I would expect/guessing to see another 50 fps. I'll test some out soon here to know.

I would think RL 23 in the 280 ai. RL 22 was the best in mine with 160s

No, it's not & is what I get with 150's & RL-22 in mine with 24" barrels; 2950-2975 in a 22" barrel.

Trying to get my hands on some of the Nosler LR Accubonds to try but I just cannot find any right now.

A .625 G1 BC at 3,000 FPS looks really good to me........... grin

Shooting Nosler 150 LRAB's

My rifle likes RL26 and 62.0 for a low ES average of 3,020 mv.

Really likes it!

Lapua brass
Win primer

Tried 57.0 and 58.0 grains of RL23 for 2,970 top speed.

Edited to change to 57 and 58

Anyone know if Alliant is coming out with R-18 and R-20? That is, the temperature insensitive versions of R-17 and R-19.

I do not believe that Reloder 17 is as sensitive as some make it out to be...... I never had a problem , and the temps here vary 100 degrees or so from season to season.................

How close to the lands on bullet seating do the LRAB's like?

On the RL-23, did you mean 57 & 58 grains instead of 47 & 48?

A bit more info from ATK listed here as to their difference from 22 and 25 posted Jan 1, 2015

http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2015/01/new-advanced-alliant-powders-reloder-23-and-reloder-26/

Good stuff on the 6.5x55........I had that in mind for mine and was wondering.

God Bless

The RL-26 .270 load with the 150 partition sounds like something I'd like to try.

More load testing today with the newer powders including IMR 4451.

6.5x55
Lapua brass
Rem primer
COAL 3.180

Nosler 129 LRAB
IMR 4451 46.8
2,930 average, low ES
This load rocks for accuracy at .4
(I'm guessing that this would be a great powder in the 260 Rem.)

140 Berger VLD
RL 26 52.5
2,945
2,964
2,937

...........................................................
270 Win

150 Nosler Partition
RL 26 63.0
Nosler brass
Fed 215 Mag primer
I bumped the COAL to 3.40 from 3.35

3,080
3,074
3,103
3,061

Accuracy was just under an inch with the cold bore shot.
3 shots were touching.
The Partition likes the slower powder more than the LRAB.

Absolutely no "classic" pressure signs, easy bolt lift, no marks on case head, primers looked good, ect.

I think I likey a lot.

This was a reply I received from Alliant Powder

"Reloder 26 falls between RL-25 and RL-33.
Reloder 23 falls between RL-22 and RL-25.
Keep in mind that burn rates are only relative. Even though you may have two powders that follow one another, they may have completely different burn rates and/or characteristics.
Thanks,
