I have come to realize I need a good basic screwdriver set for tinkering on my guns. I've been looking at this one from Brownells:

http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-t...magna-tip-screwdriver-set-prod22300.aspx

How are there Magna-Tip sets, and are there other better sets (not just Brownells) that would be better in the same price range? Not really looking to spend more than about $75.

Thanks.

I've used the Midway set and it works fine.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a LOT of screwdrivers & I like the MagnaTip sets a lot, but this is a good basic set, but not cheap.

the wheeler sets are ok..until you need them for a seriously frozen screw... they will break on you.

yes I use them but only for normal use.

I have a complete set of MagnaTips for serious work.

I like the MagnaTips. Being basically cheap I bought the small assortment and spares in standard sizes. The standard slot type fit most of the time and I grind a spare to fit otherwise. But it would be nice to have one to the big sets just because it's cool, probably would never use 90% of it.

I recommend this set for our Gunsmithing students: http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-t...magna-tip-screwdriver-set-prod22300.aspx The later addition of the Brownells narrow slot set makes for a fairly complete set of screwdrivers.

Not a fan of magna-tip screwdrivers at all. I have used Forster screwdrivers for years, have only broken the smallest one which is easily reground. The only use I have for the magna-tip bits is with an impact driver when removing seriously stuck screws.

Dear local favorite:

I've used the Magna-Tip by Brownells for 15+ years. Originally, I purchased the starter set, similar to your linked set.

Then I bought the whole nine yards with three drivers.

I really do use most of the bits, particularly with older Auto 5's and Winchesters.

I've never broken one even with my illegal 3/8" drive socket wrench set up.

Sincerely,

Good start . I have one and I also have a bunch of Forster screwdrivers I purchased back in the 80's I have ground the hollow ground tips to fit the screwheads perfectly. Then all the gun manufacturers went to hex head screws grin
