I'll be doing a drop camp in Colorado 2nd Rifle season. I am considering taking both bow and rifle. In this area there are opportunities for long (200+) shots and short (20-30 yards). Got my cow elk here last year at 40 yards. I'll have both a bull tag and a cow tag.

Obvious I'll have one weapon in my hands and the other straped to my backpack depending on where I am.

The other option is to leave one in camp while I hunt with other.

Opinions? Any of you guys done this before?

I would concentrate on one type of hunting tool, myself.
If you don't score with the bow, at least you will have a great trip.
I found out a long time ago that I can't concentrate multiple things, be it rifles , bows , or shotguns, so take only one main, and one for a back up of the same thing....

Leave the bow at home. If you want to hunt with your bow, come out in September.

Carry the bow and bring along a gun bearer like they had in Africa back in the day.

When I have gone way back in the woods, I have taken both bow and rifle. For example, bear hunting, all week in norhern Minnesota. Just in case I wound a bear and have to follow him into a thicket, I am going back to the canoe and get my .308 carbine.

Same for hunting wild boar on foot in the mountains of SC or NC.

I've done it on several occasions, both in Africa and this year in Alaska. My intentions are to harvest game with my bow, but when it cimes down to crunch time, I won't hesitate to pick up rifle. My theory is, why go home empty handed when on the last day I can connect with my long gun.

When hunting dangerous game on foot, the prudent thing to do sometimes is put down the bow and reach for the thunderstick - as when trailing a wounded boar, or there is a pack of wolves between you and your canoe.
