Was thinking about taking the wife to warmer weather for a few days. Any one have any recommendations on places to go and things to do down there? We've never been there and I was thinking itd be better than here as far as weather for a few days any way.

If you've never been to Florida at all, you might want to consider the St. Augustine, Daytona, Space Coast area. It's all in about a 100-120 mile stretch just off I-95. Decent amount to see, some really good seafood restaurants (Ponce Inlet, near the lighthouse) and best of all it's at least 80 miles away from the Mouse. This is the off season for that part of Florida and rates are real reasonable. Good Luck.

I was just about to suggest that you Google St. Augustine. You beat me to it.

We've been spending time with family in Ft. Lauderdale. We went to the beach and they had several shops, restaurants, rentals, motels, etc. It was a beautiful area and I was surprised the water was a warm as it was for December. We spent time at Bass Pro Shops. It is huge! They have a lot of neat stuff to see there and great food. We went on a guided boat ride to spot alligators, iguanas, and certain types of birds. They had a show where a guy does dangerous tricks with the alligators. I got to hold a baby alligator. We toured a fish museum right beside Bass Pro Shops. It looked to me like there is a lot to keep people busy doing around here. The beach was my favorite time, but I enjoyed everything. Best wishes in whatever you decide to do!

I could never understand that winter is off season in Fla. Have friends that go clean down there in june-july to the beach. Why the h--- go 1000+ miles when we have the whole seaboard nice and warm in july. Now in December, different story.

Hey.

You are kinda frisky when away from the Safariman.

Exactly. It has been a nice break from very cold temps for us. We will be going from 85 degrees to maybe 20 degrees once we get back late tomorrow. It was difficult to tell it was off season at the beach yesterday as we took a long time finding a parking place.

IMO the area around cape coral and south to Marco, and even 10,000 islands is the best of florida...

The keys are another subject and a cool place as well. At least to a point.

It's a big place, and spread out. Hard to give suggestions if I don't know where you are going.

I am back in Miami for a few weeks. If you get dowm this way, call. laugh

I just got back from Naples and Fort Myers. This is a nice area, but even there the water is too cold for recreational use this time of year.

Whether it is off-season or THE season, depends very much on where in Florida you're talking about. Right now is the high season in places like Palm Beach, Naples, and Miami Beach while places like Daytona, Panama City, Cocoa Beach(Canaveral) and St. Augustine and Jacksonville are far more populated in the summer. Good thing about it is just about anywhere you go south of I-10 is going to feel like summer compared to Iowa this time of year.

Keys. I've lived in Florida most of my life, and it's my favorite place. Find a barstool in Islamorada and watch the sun set.

The Ft. Myers area is nice and not too pricey. The keys are a long way from where you would likely fly into. Check out Allegiant air. I fly to Iowa and back for cheap from the St. Pete airport. They fly straight thru to Des Moines if that would be near you.

Florida is a large state.
More info is needed--
Where are you going?
There are beaches and tourist attractions everywhere.
The Gulf waters will be warm to you.
There is good fishing ,salt and fresh water, all over.
