I've been using the leupold vx-3 3.5-10x40 and 2.5-8x36 for several years now and I think they are awesome hunting scopes. I've thought many times about dropping the cash for a nice European scope or one with nice repeatable turrets, but for whatever reason I can't justify the extra expense.

I'm in the market now for a new scope and I've been looking at a VX2 3-9x40 with long range dots. I like the power knob better on the VX3 but those VX2 optics look good to me at nearly half the price. I haven't had the VX 2 in low light or run one hard.

Has anyone seen much difference between the two to justify the cost? The vx2 seems like a lot of scope for the money.

I used to have a VX-32.5-8x36, now I have a VX-2 3-9x40, I can't imagine it ever making a difference in the field. I think the VX2 is a great deal.

Also a VX-3 user who recently mounted a VX-2 3-9x40 CDS for a friend. I was very impressed with the VX-2 and although I don't own one, after seeing how good this one was, wouldn't hesitate to get one.

They're sleek and light with glass almost as good as the VX-3.

Last spring I updated some optics. Replaced a VX-III 1.5-5, a VX-II 2-7 Compact and a Burris 2-7 with 2 VX-2 3-9 Ultralights and a VX-3 2.5-8. In a hunting situation between the VX-3 and VX-2's I don't think you would ever notice a difference and they are all better than the previous generations.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

When you can get a Meopta Meopro from Cameraland for less than both Leupold models and has a LOT better glass why would anyone even consider a Leupold?

Can't say about the Meopro, but Leupold upgraded the entire VX line of scopes in 2012. A new VX-2 is using the same technology and lense coatings on current VX-2's as they did on older VX-3's. I have the same VX-2 in a 3-9X40 with dots on 2 rifles. They are better scopes than the older VX-3's I have in 2.5-8X36. I can't imagine needing a better scope.

They are $299 with a duplex retocle, the LRD reticle is $350. A VX-3 with the Boone and Crockett reticle is $500. It is probably a better scope, but not $150 better to me.

I agree, for the money a Leupold VX2 is mighty hard to beat and I cant imagine needing a better scope for hunting, I have a few of the new Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 scopes and for the money they are also hard to beat, I think I paid around $239 for the last Elite I bought recently for a muzzleloader.........Hb

herschel34, for friendly consideration and counterpoint.

Vx2- a great scope and excellent bargain no doubt; however, you found your Vx3's worth the money as well as state you prefer its features over the Vx2. I will caution that as a recipe for regret.

The old addage about scopes was buy the best you can afford so you only buy once. I think it still applies even though lower tier scopes have come so remarkably far in the past few years. I see very few folks ever regret spending the extra money on an item that gets more or less amortized over several years of use.

I have a few scopes that far outperform their costs and they have endeared themselves to me for the bargain they are. While great it doesn't seem to equal appreciating something as the best I have. Given the choice between the two I have gravitated to the latter.

As I get older I find myself allowing value to be defined, at least in part, as how excited I am to get my new purchase.

Food for thought.

Minus the moving sale 10% discount = $360 plus free shipping.

A standard duplex matte VX-2 is $299 and a VX-3 is $429. I own a VX-3 and several Meopta's. IMO there is no comparison in quality of glass, Meopta is much better for less or equal $$.

I think you may be confusing the Meopro with the Meostar?

+1

I love the value represented by the FFII but have a VX1 & a VX2 cuz I've never found it bad to get the best glass you can afford.

I've looked at the meopro scopes several times, but the deal Doug has is for the plex reticle. I would like some type of ballistic reticle. This makes the price jump significantly. Also would have to use higher rings with the meopro cause the ocular is big.

How long has the meopro scope had a significant presence in the American market? Long enough to determine ability to prove their ruggedness?

Every report I hear about the meopro glass is excellent, but I don't know that it has any other advantages over the Leupolds

The meopro scopes are very good no doubt but like the Zeiss Conquest series scopes they are heavier and much bulkier looking than Leupold's sleeker and lighter scopes....some probly like the Bulky look better but I prefer the sleek look and will always choose a lighter weight optic...........Hb
