Well, a couple months ago a guy sold me a busted up old Mauser for $100. The metal was in good shape but the stock was beat and it was missing a couple pieces. I decide to try out a Mauser Sporter build. I thought it un-American that I did not own a 30-06 so that is the caliber I chose. I think it came out pretty good... over all. There are a couple areas I wish went better. I messed up my Duracoat finish while re-installing the barrel. I had very little black duracoat left so i tried to just respray the damaged area and it came out a bit shinier than the original finish job. Also I changed out the shroud so i could install a trigger with a safety that would be more like what I am used to and that would not interfere with a scope mount. I ordered a trigger and started to inlet the stock for it. Unfortunately the trigger i bought was semi defective and the safety didn't always work. So i sent it back and ordered a Timney. This inlettng was a bit different so my opening is a bit too big and the Dremel got away from me. So the opening is a bit rough. So the Final Stats are: Mauser Mod 98 Large Ring B&C Medalist Stock Shilen CM Barrel 10 twist 25.5" Timney Trigger Unknown Maker Shroud from Brownells 2-7x33 Leupold Scope Leupold Rings and Bases If it warms up sometime in the next little while I will try to get it to the range for a test firing. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to share my "accomplishment(?)" Thanks for looking. Happy New Year to everyone.

Looks good.
Overall great looking rifle.
Asked question previously about stock but re-read your post which made my question moot.

Sand.... Looks fine to me...I also did the same kind of thing. I had a barreled action needing a stock, so I ordered one and did the in-letting myself, I made a few mistakes, but it turned out ok, good enough to take to the woods. If the little 'mis-steps' bother you...shoot the rifle for a year and next winter redo the project, maybe with a wood stock.

Thanks for all the feed back. I am going to hunt it a bit if it shoots at least half minute of deer. I will post target pics after a test firing. Maybe next time I do a duracoat job in black I'll just re spray this one too. Sand.... By the way...that is a cool looking knife on the bench. A good friend of mine made that for me Damascus blade. Pretty cool knife.

Good job, love a good sporter mauser. What's the contour, #3? Any idea on the finished weight?

Aint' a one of my buddies who makes cool knives, so it seems obvious that I'm hangin' with the wrong crowd...
I like your rifle... Hope it shoots well, for you...
And as long as it shoots well, ignore the imperfections. they won't show up on camera in your hero shots...
