My experience tells me (at least relative to Rem 870 and Mossberg 500 series) that a pump shotgun with a tubular magazine can be left fully loaded for extended periods of time.

When an active deputy I had an 870 with a 4-shot tube that I keep loaded year round and only unloaded it twice per years when we qualified with shotguns.

Up until I got my Doube Action Mossberg, I kept an 870 with extended mag fully loaded for years on end and it always worked.

I've had the Mossberg for a couple of years now and it is fully loaded (in my safe of course). I shoot it about once per month and have had no issues relative to the fully loaded tube.

However, I wonder if there is a recommended magazine spring change frequency for Rem, Moss, and other shotguns with tubular mags.

Thanks, Norm
