I think I am gonna open the barrel channel up a bit more, if that doesn't work I will swap scopes just to be sure.

Keep the thoughts coming though

You sure it's in the v-blocks correctly?

I will tear it apart again to make sure tomorrow but I am pretty certain they are ok.

Thanks for the tip SAS.

Have you had to do anything else to the RARs to get them humming?

I just pretty much asked you the same thing over on ARAIG, don't worry about a reply there.

I just checked and the action appears to be sitting in the v blocks correctly

Make sure that front screw isn't bottoming out. Sounds like it's moving around a little. Honestly, I've never seen one not shoot extremely well.

I like the v-block system, but it's easy to see how they could be a little off in injection molded plastic.

It'd be handy if your buddy had a RAR and you could try his stock on your action.

I find that every rifle is a little different in the American series. My 243 had to be tuned some, Barrel channel open wide, bolt channel opened some and the crown looked not to square. I took a manson crowning tool and in 10 minutes I made a long range rifle out of a $300 gun. I now get 3/4" groups at 300 yards using 41.6 grains IMR4350 and a 95 grain combined technology balistic tip. Thats close to my custom 6mm ackley benchrest rifles accuracy. I will say that my shooting buddy had hell with his 223 trying to get it to shoot until he did the same fiddling around with his.I have a cheap 6.5x20 Simmons whitetail classic scope that cost $125 on it. The cheap little SOB will scare the hell out of a $2500 benchrest rifle

I opened up the barrel channel more on my RAR stainless .308 carbine. Got to shoot it today. Before I was getting 1" to 1 1/4" 3-shot groups. Today I got a 1/2" 3-shot group. Load is a 168 gr BT over 44.5 gr of RE-15.

More barrel clearance helped my rifle.

Opening up the barrel channel didn't do much to help my compact Ruger American in 223. I glassed a couple of graphite arrow shafts in the hollow forend. That really stiffened the forend up and stopped it from tapping the barrel when the rifle was fired. Before the addition of the graphite shafts, groups less than minute of angle weren't possible and now they are the norm.

I got my son a RAR 243 compact and with 95gr NBT I got about .75 MOA and sometimes a little less. Then found my son could not shoot it accurately so I looked for a reduced load for him and came to 24gr of H4985 with 95NBT and I am getting .75MOA as well and usually 2 are touching and one is further away. All in all its a good shooting rifle. The rifle has the 2-7 Leupy on it bought new as well.

I have seen numerous post on how well these rifles shoot so this is generally a known shooter but we all know there could be a dud in a sample of 5 so who knows. Maybe try some other reloads and see how it goes. FWIW I tried the Sierra 60gr and it did not shoot worth a darn but I figger I am going to have to try this load again and see if I can tweek this load.

I hope you get yours shooting. I feel my son is growing leaps and bounds and he will be too big for this compact but not a bad buy for $365 OTD at a guns show.

I looked at the screws that hold the stock on the action and cannot see what bit it takes to remove. What are you guys using to remove the stock on these RAR's?

3/16" hex bit. I bought some 2" long bits on eBay because 1" weren't quite long enough to use with my torque driver.

Sometimes we open up the forend till it looks good but the barrel will still slap it during the recoil cycle. To see if its the forend put a little blob of modeling clay between the barrel and forend where it should be floating. Pressure on the bench or during the firing will compress the clay and let you know where you stand.

I will second the vote for using carbon fiber arrow shafts instead of just filling it with glass or steel bed. Cut a groove for the shafts and coat with gorilla glue, it will expand and lock everything in for a cheaper price and 1/10 of the weight.
