Welcome to the forum, man you are fortunate, 250Fs in that shape are hard to find. As far as ammo, Remington is still producing 250 Savage ammo. Saw some in, of all places, Walmart not too long ago. Do what you can to get that Tasco of of her. Weaver makes a 2.5X scope, shouldn't be out of your price range as well. I have a 2.5X Weaver on my 308F, I love it. Low profile and compliments the class of the 99 very well. Enjoy your new rifle but be careful, the Savage 99 is a very addictive habit.

Welcome to the forum!

Keep the gun and THE GRANDMA!! Treat them both
as if they were made of gold. Especially the Grandma.

Ok guys here's the scoop.
I talked with Gramps and he tossed the 2.5 weaver(bummer). I went and bought a Nikon 3x9x40 Buckmaster With Nikoplex. I mounted it in the same rings that have been on there for ever and went to the range with my father in-law.
Well that gun can shoot!!
At the 50 yard range I shot 5 remington 100 grain bullets. 4 went in the space of a quarter and one was a little high left.
My father in-law ajusted the scope 6 clicks to the right and put 4 rounds touching each other and one a little off straight up.
We moved over to the 100 yard range and my fatherinlaw was able to do 2 three shot groups almost as tight. I didn't do so well. I need a lot of practice.
As soon as I get some batteries for my digital I will post pics of guns and targets.
Grandma is going to crap when she sees those targets.
Deer season starts the 12th of august and I'm going to get a licence for the first time in about 5 years.... man am I pumped!!
Thanks again for all the help with the back ground on this great rifle.
I think I am going to buy a .223 bolt gun to practice and only use the 99 to hunt . Now if I could only find some rounds locally. I am ordering a couple of boxes from cabelas right now. I hope they get here in time for deer season.

Deer season starts the 12th of August? Rifle season? Ah man... you suck! I got 3 months to wait!

Glad to hear it's shooting those 100 grain bullets so well. You're a lucky man. Good luck hunting! If... oops, WHEN you get one be sure to get a good picture of the 99 and the victim. Les has a hunting section at savagela.org and we need to add to it.

PS: I think I'd be taking a few steaks over to grandma's after you get that deer processed.

You have the right grandmother, when I was 7 my maternal grandfather, an anarchist painter, gave me a Red Ryder BB gun. It was gorgeous. Then my paternal grandmother said 7 was too young for a gun and took it away, said to ask her for it when I was ten. I did and she said "what gun?". I loved her dearly but never forgave her and it made me into a firm opponent of gun control, if not for her I might have ended up a typical big city liberal !!!!

IMHO you have much to thank her for.
