Roe Clark's opinion of the EG was that it was the best hunting rifle Savage ever produced. The most popular model ever made with the hunter in mind. Sales reflected that.

An EG in .300 was what started this runaway train for me! Still have it, great gun, but I just picked up an H featherweight in .303, I think I have a new favourite!

I have a '47 EG that looks just like yours. I'm a sling guy, so I found a leather shotgun butt pad that slips over the butt, and I have my sling hooked to that and the forearm screw got changed to a sling stud. Not permanent, and sure makes the rifle easier to carry in the woods. There is something really sexy about that demure schnabble forearm on the EG. I've really become a fan of the .300 round too. A couple of weeks ago I got a T in .300 also. I enjoy taking either out to the range for some shooting each weekend. Now I have a line on a .250.... Oh boy...

Looks just like the one I got when I was 13. I took one look at that beauty and traded my clunky looking old Marlin 336 and $20 for it.

The savage99.com site says it is a 1947. Steve
