This is a complete bbl'd action, w/ A3 bottom metal. Rear bridge has been drilled and tapped for a rcv'r sight. Original sights. Bbl is marked 8-14. SN-403XXX Should make a good military match rifle, if you can find a stock, or use it in a sporter stock. Pics won't work for me on this sight, but I have them available via email. Looking for $300shipped.

serial number, important.

Could you post the S/N? If you're sketchy about the whole number, posting it by giving the first 2 or 3 digits followed by X's to denote the length would accomplish what many of us are looking for.
For example, if the S/N is 123456, you could post that it is 123XXX.
This is important in the sale of a 1903 receiver, as there was a change in heat treat/metallurgy that alleviates a safety concern.
I'd also be interested, pending S/N.
If the s/n is visible in pics, that'd work too. If possible, email pics to tddeangelo at comcast dot net please?

Would call bore condition as good. Certainly usable for previously mentioned activities.

Regarding heat treating/metallurgy safety concerns-------Makes me wonder how many of those questionable receivers have failed, using SAAMI ammunition and acceptable handloading procedures/practices. Anybody have a hands on experience----seen pictures, etc?? I have seen several pics 700's, a 70 and even a Weatherby. Never seen pics of an 03, or I guess even heard of one fail. I suppose at some point, some one discovered they did not meet spec, thus the change in the process. So, can someone provide me w/ some solid, concrete, valid information that one of the 03's failed using proper ammunition/procedures, etc.?? Thanks,

You could also google 03 Springfield "high number low number". Tons of reading on the web on the issue. Lots of opinions, as well.

This serial number is NOT a "low number" Springfield. Rock Island Arsenal had switched to using nickel steel long before this one was made, making it one of the very best '03s for sporting use. The trade off for strength was that they weren't as slick as the earlier case hardened receivers.
Good price. If the bore were minty it would be living in Maryland now.

I do realize this isn't a low number receiver. Was just passing along some leads as asked for by the OP. I'm contemplating this one for a project rifle. It'd make a heck of a nice 400 Whelen....
