Well before xmas a friend at work asked me for a loan. Now it's the end of January and I told him that I want the money back. He offered me a Spyderco knife to clear the loan. The knife is in excellent condition and I have never owned a Spyderco .... so I took the deal. Been looking thru Ebay for this Spyderco knife. It looks like a Calypso Jr except this knife is 100 % AUS-8 stainless steel. It has a fully serrated blade. Anyone have a Spyderco Calypso ? Any comments on fully serrated blades ?

might be an older model. I think the Calypso has been around for over 10 years. Not sure if Spyderco uses AUS8 any more on domestic produced knives.

I have several knives with a half serrated and half smooth blade. This type of blade looks cool and is very popular but I find it really does not work all that well. Any comments on a full serrated blade ?

my usual thought on serrated blades is that they were invented so folks that can't sharpen a knife can be happy. I may be wrong though.

Thought I would like a half serrated blade and bought a CRKT that was ground that way. After a while I ground the serrations off and put a normal edge on it. YMMV

Last night I needed to cut 1 foot off a 12' x 15' piece of carpet. First I tried a regular knife but that did not work well. So I used the new-to-me serrated Spyderco knife and it cut thru that floor carpet very easily. Now I understand the use of a fully serrated blade.

For most uses-I don't think a serrated blade works as well. For a few uses-it works very well. Rope, bread, tomatoes and now, carpet.
