I see a rebore service that rebores to 35 cal. You can bypass the problems of a rough bore with a new old caliber. I was wondering the merits of 30-30 or improved case to base it on. Anyone with REAL experience here?

Just realized it might be possible to go to 356 Winchester.

I believe that I handled a Remington M788 that had been converted to 35-30 many years ago.

The 35-30/30 might resolve the .35 rem brass shortage necking up 30-30 brass but I believe the 35-30/30 dies cost about $120.00.

hclark,
A nice looking Savage 99 you have, it appears you had the receiver and lever refinished in a "Greystone" finish.
How does the 35-30/30 shoot for you and what load are you using?

Doc 200 gr Hornady RN with 36.0 gr RL7. Groups 3 shots less than an inch at 100 yds. Dropped that deer in his tracks at 75 yds. Muzzle velocity of my load is identical to my 35 Remington Marlin 336 factory loads.

I think that's a good save of a 99. Thanks for the pictures. I think if the gun is up to it a 356 Winchester is also possible.
