Have you guys noticed the newer tang stamps? The stamp on the tang is etched instead of stamped into the steel. I think the older knives are much better made .The new ones have the look of a china made knife.

I have three of the older ones and they are very nice. Have not looked at anything new.

Where are you getting these "new" ones?

Original H&R knives haven't been made in a long time. They were made by Bertram in Germany and were top notch.

It is a different company now. Made in Germany, Spain, and China......

All of the new ones have stainless blades, not the old carbon they used to be made of.

I lost interest in H&R knives after AG Russell lost the company in about 1980. The original H&R knives were awesome! My favorite of all the patterns was the coffin handled spear point in stag. I wish I could find (afford) one now.

A.G. Russell is still producing some from time to time using left over blanks from the early eighties.

I did not know that.

There are a few of them in the spring catalog that just arrived.
